A screenshot from ToeJam & Earl 2 for the Sega Mega Drive. This sequel was a platform game.
The screen splitting capability, shown in the first game, doesn't appear in this game, and the two players must share the same screen constantly.
The player can interact with several objects in the level, such as trees and bushes. For example, shaking a tree could make presents fall off its leaves. Some junk objects could also fall, directly onto the character's head, taking health points.
Most of the presents in this game don't contain items, but points.
The bar below shows, from left to right:
- Funk meter: the funk points can be used on funk moves (small distance teleport) or funk scan, which can find special items, spots or hidden doors to the funk dimension.
- Coins: can be used to activate certain objects
- Health bars: shows how much life each player has
- Earthling detector: points to the nearest earthling
- Panic button: makes ToeJam and Earl run in panic, throwing jars in all directions. This grants temporary invincibility
- Funk vacuum: sucks all earthlings in the screen and expel them in jars.
