User talk:Todd Gallagher

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hi, Todd gallagher, Welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope you like this place — I sure do — and want to stay. Before getting too in-depth, you may want to read about the Five pillars of Wikipedia and simplified ruleset. If you need help on how to title new articles check out the naming conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the manual of style. If you need help look at Wikipedia:Help and the FAQ , plus if you can't find your answer there, check the Village Pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions)! There's still more help at the Tutorial and Policy Library. Plus, don't forget to visit the Community Portal. And if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my user talk page or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will be by to help you shortly.

[edit] Additional tips

Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the 'pedia!

  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes (~). If you use four, you can add a datestamp too. Five will get you the datestamp only.
  • You may want to add yourself to the new user log.
  • If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.
  • If you're still entirely confused, or would like to get a better grasp of your wikipedia skills, and you have an IRC client (or don't mind getting one), check out the Bootcamp. It's not what it sounds like, but it is fun and can help you with your editing skills.
  • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random page button in the sidebar, or check out the Open Task message in the Community Portal.

PS: This is not a bot and you did nothing to prompt this message. This is just a friendly welcome by a fellow Wikipedian.

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reasons:

Block on 168.11.88.66 converted to "anon-only" -- you should be able to edit once logged in. Don't make me regret it, eh? ;) Sorry for the trouble!

[edit] Your edit to Natural born citizen

Your recent edit to Natural born citizen (diff) was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to recognize and repair vandalism to Wikipedia articles. If the bot reverted a legitimate edit, please accept my humble creator's apologies – if you bring it to the attention of the bot's owner, we may be able to improve its behavior. Click here for frequently asked questions about the bot and this warning. // AntiVandalBot 21:20, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Plurality of Initialisms

Appreciate your comments on the plural of intialisms and acronyms. While there are few sources who take the contrary position, the majority of style manuals recommend reserving the apostrophe for possessives other than when the addition of an "s" will create more confusion than a "'s" such as Mind your p's and q's". The very Wikipedia article you cited states "individual letters and abbreviations whose plural would be ambiguous if only an -s were added are pluralized by adding -'s." Since "SMCs" is not ambiguous, there is no need for a -'s. Happy editing, Rillian 01:34, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Redirect on User Page

I notice you have a redirect on your User and User Talk pages. This is the first time I seen that and am not sure it is a recommended Wiki practice. Since your user name is "Todd gallagher", all your signed comments and edits are marked with that name. In other words, your account is "Todd gallagher", not "Todd Gallagher". You may want to consult an administrator for suggestions on how to best handle this if you really want "Todd Gallagher" as your user name. Regards, Rillian 01:38, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your mediation cabal case

Hi, Todd. I have placed messages on the talk pages of Rillian and Bilbobee, asking if they would be interested in mediation. IronDuke 20:42, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Great... I will kick things off on the talk page, then. IronDuke 15:30, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] VMI

Todd, while I appreciate your edits, you should make sure to cite your sources in the text as opposed to your edit summary. BQZip01 talk 00:27, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Oath Legend

Not sure what your agenda is here, but you came into a settled issue and you reverted without discussion. You're the one who's doing that, and you should stop. You should also try to understand wiki's policies on this. Please stop reverting or you will be reported. Looks to me like you know what that is already. Info999 21:18, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Be Bold

The appropriate response to finding content that you feel is lacking in clarity is to be bold and edit the content, not to remove it completely and insist that others edit it before re-adding. Similarly, for content that you feel is in the wrong place in an article or content that you feel needs additional citation - go ahead and move the content and add citations. Wikipedia is a collaborative model -- you should assume edits are made in good faith. Rillian 17:27, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikimania in Atlanta!

Hi! I noticed your involvement on U.S. South-related articles, categories and WikiProjects, and I wanted to let you know about a bid we're formulating to get next year's Wikimania held in Atlanta! If you would like to help, be sure to sign your name to the "In Atlanta" section of the Southeast team portion of the bid if you're in town, or to the "Outside Atlanta" section if you still want to help but don't live in the city or the suburbs. If you would like to contribute more, please write on my talk page, the talk page of the bid, or join us at the #wikimania-atlanta IRC chat on freenode.org. Have a great day!

P.S. While this is a template for maximum efficiency, I would appreciate a note on my talk page so I know you got the message, and what you think. This is time-sensitive, so your urgent cooperation is appreciated. :) Mike H. I did "That's hot" first! 09:35, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your recent reversion of multiple edits by ClovisPt

You have multiple edits in which you reverted, without edit summary, edits by User:ClovisPt. Please explain these reversions. This has been reported on WP:AIV as possible Wiki stalking. If you continue without explanation, you may be blocked from editing for disruptive edits. — ERcheck (talk) 03:20, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

It's gone on too long to just warn him ...

I have reverted your edits. Articles on Wikipedia predominantly carry the "American Civil War" naming convention, instead of the "War Between the States". It's best to stick with one name on Wikipedia. Nishkid64 (talk) 03:36, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject Colonial Coast

I am currently working to gather support for WikiProject Colonial Coast, a project aimed at improving the pages related to the Colonial Coast of Georgia (includes the cities of Savannah, Brunswick, St. Marys, and Waycross), and would like to know if you are interested in helping to contribute to this. Thanks! Jaxfl (talk) 00:31, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

P.S. - Feel free to come over and comment on, add suggestions to, and/or discuss the WikiProject Colonial Coast proposal.

[edit] Overthrow Article

Thanks for your recent contribution to the Overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom article. We are seeking consensus and would greatly appreciate any further contribution you might have. Mahalo --Yosemitesam25 (talk) 22:52, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Todd for contributing again to the Overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom. Also, thanks for your service. I responded to your entry in the bias section and hope that you feel welcome to contribute further. It's clear you have command of the topic and I look forward to any further thoughts if you're so inclined. Thanks,--Yosemitesam25 (talk) 22:45, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Your redirected user pages

You should not have your user and talk page redirected to a non existent account. Various tools are available based on username, including contribution and block logs, and having a redirect to an unregistered account may be confusing to new users and annoying to any users. Redirecting your username does not change your username; you'll need to file a request at WP:CHU to do that. In the meantime, if you do not move your user and talk pages back to your actual username by tomorrow, I will do it for you. Thanks, Natalie (talk) 01:33, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Your behavior is being discussed here. The diffs provided by Viriditas do seem to be personal attacks. I would advise you to familiarize yourself with our no personal attacks policy and be aware that calling other editors racists or Neo-Nazis is considered a personal attack. I think you'll find your editing here will be much easier if you focus criticisms on edits and content, rather that your opinions on another editor's beliefs. Natalie (talk) 01:38, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for filing a request to change username. Would you be willing to re-redirect your pages in the meantime? Only bureaucrats can change usernames, and there are very few of them, so it may take a few days for the request to be processed. I have also responded to your comments on WP:ANI Natalie (talk) 02:02, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
How do I re-redirect my pages?Todd Gallagher (talk) 02:36, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
Use the move function at the top of each page, and move it to the correct title. When your username is changed, the pages will be moved again. I am going offline for the evening, but if you are having problems I can give you a hand tomorrow. Natalie (talk) 04:25, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
