Tobin Esperance

Tobin Joseph Esperance (born on November 14, 1979 in Vacaville, California) is the bassist of the band Papa Roach. Tobin currently has family in North Bend, Oregon.

He joined the band in 1996, shortly after the departure of Will James. Tobin joined the group when he was 16. For the album "Getting Away With Murder", he wrote about/over thirty songs, while for "The Paramour Sessions" he played back up guitar as well as bass.

He cites Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jane's Addiction, Faith No More and Fugazi as his favourite bands and main inspirators.

He is endorsed by Lakland basses and has some 55-94's both deluxe and classic, Lakland Skyline Hollowbody basses, in interviews he has said he used a black Lakland Darryl Jones Signature bass for a lot of "The Paramour Sessions" and you can see him with that bass on the first 4 songs on Papa Roach's live dvd "Live and Murderous In Chicago" and on tv performances of some of their songs.

He has 4 tunings that he likes and these are Drop D (D A D G), Drop D half step down (C# G# C# F#), C G C F, and standard 5 string tuning ( B E A D G).

He is endorsed by Ampeg and uses the Ampeg SVT-810E cabinent and SVT2-Pro Head.

The pedal board that he uses, as seen on the live dvd Live and Murderous In Chicago, consists of a Boss DD-3 delay, Digitech Whammy IV, Voodoo Labs pedal power 2, Boss TU-2 tuner pedal, Prescription Electronics Depth Charge distortion pedal, and Crybaby 105Q bass wah.

Tobin is in the process of reading through the encyclopedia Brittanica, A-Z..but because of all the time spent writing and recording, he is currently only half way through "E". Tobin is taking classes at a local language institute to learn Japanese and has also been known to dabble in gourmet cooking classes on occasion. Tobin lives in Los Angeles with his girlfriend and their pig, Tallulah, and French bulldog Sammy, and is currently writing for the new Papa Roach record as well as writing and producing for other artists in his home studio.
