Tobiah (Ammonite)

For other holders of this name see Tobias.

Tobiah was an Ammonite part Jew (possibly a governor of Ammon) who incited the Ammonites to hinder Ezra and Nehemiah's work on the Temple (Neh. iii. 35). He resorted to stratagem, and pretending to wish a conference with Nehemiah, he invited him to meet him at Ono, Benjamin. Four times he and Sanballat made the request, and every time Nehemiah refused to come. Their object was to take him prisoner.
