To Do: things I'd love to see
1. History of warning signs-in Brazil dont they show pictures of swollen up arteries or something? 2. Translation for foreign ones - I have friends from all over Europe who smoke-I'll be adding some Russian, Czech, German, French and Brazilian ones in soon 3. No deletion of this. It starts out small, but it'll get bigger 4. Move somewhere else maybe, add some categories to it

[edit] Sections
Currently it has sections called English French German etc, I added the Irish section as "Republic of Ireland" even though the messages are presented in English. It would probably be more accurate to point to the country or jurisdiction in which the messages appear rather than the language.
As a european, to be accurate, this article MUST put all E.U. countries in the same section because their warnings are exactly the same, the only difference are language subtleties. Laguna117 01:06, 25 January 2007 (UTC)Laguna 117
[edit] Spoofs
I've added information about spoof cigarette warnings but didn't want to link directly to the website that seels them. Should a link be given? It's www.fakefags.co.uk if so. Dafyddyoung 22:21, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Canada
I don't smoke, so i really can't contribute. However, I live in Canada, and I know that on our cig cartons, there are big gruesome pictures taking up like half of the cover thing. I know that they have one of people with mouth cancer, black lungs, etc, but im not sure. someone else who reads this might know. SECProto 23:45, Feb 27, 2005 (UTC)
- http://www.infotobacco.com is the Canadian site. Brazil and Thailand's Graphic Warnings can be viewed here, and the full list (with examples) of countries displaying graphic images are here. hth.
-
- the picture for the canadian warning isn't very convincing, erections are annoying, australia has the most graphic pics i've ever seen
[edit] Naming
I'd like to suggest moving this article to Tobacco packet warning signs or Tobacco packaging warning signs (I prefer the latter). The reasoning is that such warnings don't just appear on cigarette packets, but also on tobacco pouches. violet/riga (t) 20:18, 31 July 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Australia
Can someone update the Australia section with this - http://www.smoke-free.ca/warnings/Australia-warnings.htm - I've never edited a page and wouldn't know what to do
[edit] Spain
One particularly interesting warning on tobacco in Spain was "Fumar Te Matara" (Smoking will kill you). If anyone can compile a list, that would be great! --Trafficone 11:37, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
Actually in Spain it's "Fumar puede matar" Smoking can kill, and it's a exception to the E.U. standard playing on language subtleties Laguna117 01:09, 25 January 2007 (UTC) Laguna117
[edit] European Union
Warning signs in the countries of European Union are standartized by Union legislation. Therefore there is no sense to compile a separate list for every country of European Union - bacause all warnings are the same, in the official language of a respective country.
- I second.* It all says the same and even introduces translation errors. Cut out all individial transaltions, eventually leave same examples. Elthe 10:54, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
I read in the newspaper when the laws where changed in Iceland regarding health warnings that they where adopted from the EU leguslations because of the European Economic Area agreement. I also took the liberty to add the bulk of Icelandic warning messages and put the translations into ()'s.
[edit] Translate
Can somebody please Tanslate the Italy, and Lativa section?
offtopic: Compared to the other warning labels, the US one looks inferior by tryin to use "bog" words in stead if falt out sayin it "THROUGH FIRE, JUSTICE IS SERVED!" 06:42, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Singapore
First, this is a member of wiki but im too lazy to log in anyway
The purpose of this post is that i wonder why Singapore is not featured here.Singapore is also a country that take a serious stance against smoking.Cig packs have graphic images and u can literally see anti-smoking(not no smoking) signs around downtown.
[edit] Pot Makes You Stoned
This is vandalism, right? --DonES 00:13, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
No it is quite true :P HarveyDanger 02:30, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] history
what about the history of the warnings? I heard somewhere that the first was volunterely put by lucky strike an increased the sales, does anyone knows if its true?130.192.70.4 16:27, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Image:19.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
