[edit] Season 1

In the first episode of the cartoon, 'The Wood In Danger', Toad makes his first appearance. Much to everybodies surprise, Toad arrives in the middle of a meeting, called by Fox and Badger, about the destruction of Farthing Wood by developers. Toad had been missing from the Wood for some time, Toad explains how he was captured from his pond and kept in a jam jar, eventually ending up in a Nature Reserve named White Deer Park. Once Toad is informed of the perilous situation, he suggests that they all travel to White Deer Park, to which the majority of the animals agree with.

Toad acts as a guide for the rest of the animals on their journey to White Deer Park, having made the journey back from White Deer Park once before. He is often criticized by Owl and Adder for being too pompous and an unreliable leader. At one point, Owl blames Fox and Vixen's encouragement of him for this. Toad is a reliable guide for the most part, except for just after the river, when Badger takes over as leader. At this point, Toad struggles to overcome the homing instinct that is leading him back to Farthing Wood. He is also criticized for not realizing a river would be an obstacle to the animals, and for not knowing the humans were building a motorway.

[edit] Season 2

Toad is angry when Adder eats one of the resident Edible Frogs and is seen comforting them. He insists that the snake should be making friends. Toad is among those who go into hibernation soon after arriving in White Deer Park.
