Hello, I noticed your revert recent on the Banitsa disambig page. I also had a look at the Banitsa.com webpage, and I must say I was impressed. I think you could make some good contributions to the Wikipedia project. The sad fact of the assimilating pressure put on the Slavic-Macedonian population in Greece is well known, although denied by many Greeks. Take a look at Demographic History of Macedonia#Greece.

I removed your entries because they were out of place:

  • The renaming issue is OK for this village, but for the other villages it does not belong here. If you have reliable sources for the history of the name of the village, by all means, put them in.
  • Giving the Macedonian translations of lignite etc. is not what is expected in an article about a village. They belong to a dictionary, such as the Wictionary.

On the other hand, you could make valuable contributions by expanding the article, for example by adding one or two photos, (you will have to respect WP:Copyrights). But please, respect the WP:NPOV policy. I would also ask you also to not change the name of the article because it is a Wikipedia guideline that the "official" name is used as the title. Look at other localities in Greek Macedonia such as Lerin etc to wee what I mean. We are working hard to get a consensus in these issues and to avoid revert wars.

The recent announcement by ETA of a permanent truce gives us hope. Let us work together to make this world a better place.

With best wishes, Andreas 16:26, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

Hello Andreas,

I was disappointed to originally see your re-write of the Banitsa article, but truly disgusted to see you completely wipe out all information I had contributed. I tried to stay neutral for the purpose of the whole Wiki project by providing names from both sides of the "argument".

I apologize for introducing the issue of other villages being renamed but I hardly see the deletion of the entire article because of it (it simply forces me to rewrite a similar article for each of the villages that were re-named).

As for the Macedonian definitions of the terms such as "lignite" and "lentils", I don't see the problem as similar translations were provided for Banitsa (Βεύη) just as other articles did the same (ie. Zeus Ζεύς).

If you are at all qualified to write similar articles for the villages from a "Greek perspective" (seeing as the villages are now Hellenized and part of Greece) by all means, you may do so and we shall cross-link the two related pages.

I plead you to take a non-nationalistic approach to such articles that involve the "Macedonian question" as it would undoubtedly tarnish the image of such a valuable project such as Wikipedia is. If I can accept your Greek ethnicity and identity, I think the least I can ask for is that you do the same for me and my family.

I did not wipe out the article, i just renamed it. I removed only information that is not directly relevant to the village. For the renaming issue, see [[Slavic toponyms for Greek places]]. If you want to contact a Greek person who is more competent in this issue than I am, User:Makedonas has spent some time in Florina, he studied in Sofia and therefore understands the language (it is similar). Let me also assure you that I do not have any nationalistic motives. I tried to make sure that the Macedonian name appears in all localities in Northern Greece, for example [1]. I fully respect your national identity, as well as the injustice that your ancestors had to endure. Andreas 17:37, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

I thought you might be interested in this Greek weather site that lists the villages of the Florina Prefecture with their Greek and Macedonian names (in Greek characters) and with 2001 census population figures. http://meteo.ptolemaida.net/diafo/xoriaflorinas.htm Andreas 16:54, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
