[edit] Your "short URL service"

Your service obviously shouldn't be used on Wikipedia pages themselves, since wikilinks are already built into the software here. For example, using enwp.org/example (16 charactes) to get to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/example is less efficient than simply using [[example]] (11 charactes). Similarly, using enwp.org/portal:example in place of :en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal:Example is much less efficient than simply using [[Portal:Example]].

As for suggesting to others that the service be used on non-Wikipedia pages, to link to Wikipedia, that's fine, but please don't make that suggestion HERE at Wikipedia, because it could be seen as endorsing the enwp.org domain as being somehow official. And it's not, of course, unless you were to turn it over to the Wikimedia Foundation, which owns Wikipedia.

If you really, really feel strongly that you should be able to post information about this service on Wikipedia pages, please post a note on the appropriate talk page (for example, Wikipedia talk:Tools), since you have a conflict of interest; let other editors decide. (I've deleted your posting at WP:TOOL.)-- John Broughton (♫♫) 20:39, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

As you say yourself, the redirections obviously shouldn't be used on Wikipedia pages themselves.
I think maybe you have misunderstood the point of the URL redirections? I see your deleted it from WP:tools because "that's what wikilinks do". Clearly its not. You cant tell someone to read about "whatever" at [[whatever]], but you can say, read about it at enwp.org/whatever. Thats kind of the point. (My English is not 100% so maybe i'm the one that has misunderstood?)
If the Wikimedia Foundation want the domain, i will gladly donate it (as long as they continue the redirections). Do you think i should suggest this to WF?
Is it OK to wright about enwp.org on my user page? (User:Tl-lomas/enwp.org) I have added "Note: enwp.org are not related to the Wikimedia Foundation".
Thank you for the tip on the signatures :) --Tl-lomas 21:05, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
To take the last question first, sure, it's fine to write about enwp.org on your user page.
I deleted the info from the Tools page because those are really tools for Wikipedia editors, not for someone wanting to cite Wikipedia. You probably should be posting at Wikipedia:Citing Wikipedia or at Wikipedia talk:Citing Wikipedia; that's the page that focuses on linking TO Wikipedia.
You also might want to post this to a common discussion area; perhaps ask the question of whether the Wikimedia Foundation would be interested in this, or where at Wikipedia should be the information about the service. I suggest either at Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals) or Wikipedia:Village pump (miscellaneous). -- John Broughton (♫♫) 01:31, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
Thank you. I will do that Tl-lomas (talk) 15:08, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
