Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policy for further explanations. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Thank you. Femto 15:22, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The King of Comedy

Your addition of the people magazine blurb was a welcomed addition, however the link to the scan belongs in the reference or notes section, which I changed it to. It does not belong in the actual article itself. The addition has a reference number next to it, which directs the reader to the notes section where they can click on the link and see the scan for themselves. Wikipedia is not like other websites where external links are all throughout the page. They are in the Notes/Reference sections and the External Links section. Please do not reinsert it without discussin it on the article's talk page. This seems to follow the same thing User:Femto was describing to you above. Donaldd23 11:54, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments...I'm new to this, so I'm not even sure that you'll get these comments! As for your suggestion: makes sense but I'm confused because the way I made the link I thought was the most practical for the reader...instead of having to scroll down to a footnote, he can just click onto the link right from the text...indeed, this seems to be the practise in many parts of Wikipedia and that's why I tried to copy the format.

While that style is used in some articles on Wikipedia it is incorrect. I try to correct them as I seem them, as do others. Only internal links to other Wikipedia articles should be linked within an article. External links should be linked only in notes/reference/external link sections. Also, the blurb is more about the film than about Jerry Lewis and it does not belong in the trivia section of the actor's article. Please only keep it in the film article. Thanks! [edit] Typosquatting

The examples you placed in Typosquatting, while interesting, would form an article by themselves, referenced by a "See also" in Typosquatting. However, do please use care with WP:OR and WP:RS. One's own Google document is unlikely to be a valid source. Fiddle Faddle 16:35, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
