Thanks
Thanks for tagging that category with the CFD tag. I must have forgotten to save the edit to add the tag, after listing the article on CFD. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Drat (talk • contribs) .
- Yes, a move tag would be damn handy. And thanks for the unsigned tag!--Drat (Talk) 03:36, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
RFC started on Merecat
I noticed you have met Merecat and therefore I would like to inform you that in light of recent events (not discussing disputed edits, disruptive behaviour, edit warring and making personal attacks) this Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Merecat has been started. I trust should you want to contribute, you will be an objective bystander. If you do not want to comment that's OK. Sincerely Nomen Nescio 18:36, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
Macro processor - copyright violation
I noticed that you were involved in the deletion of this article (in a peripheral way, anyway). Unfortunately I, as the author of the article, was not consulted first. It has now been completely deleted. As a relative newbie, I should have handled the copyright issue a bit better, but summary deletion is a bit much. As it happens, I am the copyright holder. It was excerpted from my own website. rde42 20:14, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
- OK, so I was advised via my talk page. Unfortunately, I don't live inside Wikipedia; I use it when I need it. The mechanism perhaps needs a more direct contact. I am not inclined to spend the time doing it all again; I've placed a notice on my web page (the one that I allegedly copied from) to explain where the article went. rde42 20:44, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

rfa
I wanted to stop by and thank you for your constructive criticism of my RFA. It's helped, and is helping, to improve me as a wikipedian and an editor. I look forward to gaining your support in the future. Until then, keep on keepin on. ⇒ SWATJester Ready Aim Fire! 19:37, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
My RFA
Hello TKD/Archive 2, and thanks for supporting me on my recent request for adminship! It has succeeded with an unanimous support of 67 votes, so that I am now an administrator. Please feel free to leave a note on my talk page should you wish to leave any comments or ask for any help. Again, thanks a lot, AndyZ t 21:56, 5 May 2006 (UTC) |
Edgeworks Pictures
Yeah, release them the way you did with The Codex, as promotional material without giving away the copyright. I didn't understand the difference. And Tex Murphy can post the Forsaken picture because its for promotional use, its akin to posting movie posters, but it needs to be in the "this is still copyrighted" category too. I would do it if I could, but I'm not aware of the intricate differences of such Wikipedia methods... Nerrolken 17:21, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
Machinima-stub
Just a heads-up that I created a machinima stub template and related category.--Drat (Talk) 08:34, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for salvaging my user page after it was vandalized. -- Huysmantalk 18:30, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
Wikiproject
I definitely agree that a Wikiproject on Machinima is the next step. Perhaps something should be mentioned in Talk:Machinima and Talk:Red vs Blue to help recruit. We should be able to get at least one or two people just out of the bunch that helped with getting RvB up to featured. I've seen your guide, and I think it is really good. I actually first saw it a couple weeks or so ago, as one of the main ways I track down new articles on machinima is by checking 'What links here' for the Machinima and RvB articles. And many thanks for the Barnstar!--Drat (Talk) 05:34, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
EWS23's RfA
Hi TKD! Thank you very much for supporting my request for adminship. I was happy to hear that my previous actions were responsible and consistant enough that you thought I was already an admin. If you ever see me doing something that I could improve on, feel free to leave me a message. Thanks again! EWS23 | (Leave me a message!) 23:08, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
Blnguyen's RfA
Hello TKD. Thank you for your support and gracious comment at my request for adminship which ended at the overwhelming and flattering result of (160/1/0), and leaves me in a position of having to live up to a high standard of community expectation. You can see me in action and observe what then happened as a result. If you need admin assistance, feel free to ask me. Naturally, if I make any procedural mistakes, feel free to point them out. RvB problem
A little bit of back-and-forth reverting has occured between me and another user on List of characters in Red vs Blue regarding Omalley's new host. See Talk:List of characters in Red vs Blue. Please add in your wisdom on this matter, and explain things to this person much better than I can.--Drat (Talk) 17:51, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Nice edits. As with all the best edits, bleeding obvious when you see it done. Good one. SilkTork 09:27, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
User page redirects to an article
Noting your familiarity with this topic, I have a question to ask. User:Pitchka redirects to Sideshow Cinema, done by the user in question. Is this a fair use of the redirect function? Wouldn't this also make it difficult to leave a message with this user? Thoughts? - CobaltBlueTony 16:12, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
Thanks
Cheers for picking up on that vandalism to my userpage. It's a shame there isn't an equivalent to the "You have new messages" thing when when one's userpage is modified by someone else. Watchlist entries can be skimmed over accidentally.--Drat (Talk) 10:47, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, my watchlist hit 1000 a couple weeks ago. I'll have to try that idea you suggested.--05:42, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
Donut
It looks pretty good as it currently is. Regarding the lack of negative criticism, if there's not much to go on, not much can be said, right? I don't think they'll go too hard on it for that.--Drat (Talk) 04:22, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
RvB Wikiquote
I'm sure you've noticed the amount of quotes on the RvB Wikiquote page. After seeing the Checkcopyright tag that someone placed on the Duke Nukem quote page, I felt it was necessary on the RvB one too. The article needs trimming anyway, for size reasons. Can you add your thoughts on the matter to the talk page?--Drat (Talk) 09:50, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

List of Halo 2 multiplayer maps
The images are fairuse. I took a lot of time to find them and upload them. They are under video game and computer game screenshots. As much, I have/will/am putting them back.
Cheers!
RelentlessRouge 14:49, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- Hey! Wow. Fast response. I'm illustrating the major locations of every map with these images. I think that goes under the "unique" rationale. Because you definately have much more experience than I, please tell me how other ways it can be changed! I hope we can make it a featured list. =)
- Cheers!

Image tag help
A user has asked me for help with copyright tags for Image:Tili3.gif. I think I set the right ones, but I'm not sure. You know a lot more about this kind of thing than I do. Could you check to see I used the correct ones under the circumstances?--Drat (Talk) 06:43, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Absurdism
Sorry for being so late in reply, I've been working the whole summer and only recently signed into wikipedia on a lark. Anyways, from the little that I've seen of RvB (which my Halo playing hallmates showed me) I thought that RvB was more an exercise in surreal humor, which my brain immediately linked to episodes of Family Guy. In your message you mention that RvB has been called an "absurdist sketch comedy" by sources in the media; but I have never heard the term used before and I have never really seen an example of said "absurdist sketch comedy" (or if I did, perhaps I had mentally labeled them as something other than that). I regard such labels suspiciously since many would-be intellectuals who, in their quest to be seen as knowledgeable in fields of study outside of their own, throw in twenty dollar words like "existentialist" and "absurdist" without comprehending the full meaning of their linguistic creation.
Regardless, your reply does bring up some good points about the nature of RvB which I had not considered such as the way it deals with the pointlessness of it all. Along with RvB, I see that I had also deleted Adult Swim's Tom Goes to the Mayor and the book Catch-22 as examples of absurdism. The other examples I left alone because I have had no exposure to them at all, so I left them alone for someone else to deem them either worthy of keeping or trashing. Of course Tom Goes to the Mayor (as far as I've seen) does not belong in any philosophical category, but I would say that Catch-22 brings up the same issues of pointlessness that you contend that RvB exhibits.
And yet I deleted Catch-22 anyway. The reason is that despite asking the important questions of life (namely the whys of existence), it does not differ from any of the themes expressed in other works of media concerning the phenomenon of the "mid-life crisis". So while RvB may ask "why", the reply is the standard stoic response ("no matter how bad [things] seem, they can't be any better, and they can't be any worse, because that's the way things... are, and you better get used to it."). This is not enough. Absurdism bucks this fatalistic attitude as shown in Camus's The Stranger, as the protagonist fights for a cause he believes passionately in without giving thought to the uselessness of it all (this is the last scene in the book).
Hopefully this answers your query. MasonicLamb 00:58, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
