TK-421 is the designation of one of the stormtroopers in the movie Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.

TK-421 and his counterpart, TK-422, were guarding the Millennium Falcon when they were summoned up the ramp, and then shot by Han Solo. TK-421's armor was then taken by Luke Skywalker and used to sneak through the Death Star.

[edit] Other names

In the novelization of the movie, the trooper was referred to as THX 1138, in an homage to one of George Lucas' previous films.

In the radio dramatization of the original Star Wars trilogy, the trooper was referred to as TX-421.

[edit] Trivia

It is unknown what, if anything, TK-421 means. It is speculated that TK refers to the type of trooper, and 421 is the serial number for troopers of that type. The 501st Legion (a fan group based on the fictional trooper legion of the same name) uses the TK prefix to represent member profiles that are dressed in traditional stormtrooper armor and is listed that way in the Legion's Costume Reference Library [1].

TK-421 was the only stormtrooper to receive a designation in any of the three original trilogy movies.

TK-421 has become an easter egg of sorts mentioned in various places such as the movie Boogie Nights (as the name of a stereo modification), the television series Legion of Super Heroes (as the name of a video clip) and in video games like Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast and Fallout 2.

TK-421 (spelled out as "Teekay-421") is also the name of the Belgian Star Wars fanclub.
