Novelist, Poet, Educator, Librarian, TV Journalist, Mentor, Speaker & Playwright

" Learning to be a woman...is a lifelong lesson."

A Black/African American female; has humbly made her way - into the Poetry Society. Invited to both - 54th and 55th - President George Walker Bush Inaugurations - because of her honorary poems. They are called, “Today We Whistle” and the second was called, “The Grand Symposium”

With those kinds of credentials and hob-nobbying with Millionaires and high powered people. Now she waits, for another special dream to come true, and that is to become a Poet Laureate for the state of Texas. Or a Literature of Chancellor.


Born: September 11, 1967 under the birth name of – Tanyra Denise Shiver. Birthplace - in Laurel Mississippi. But was reared in Joliet Illinois.


Her parents then moved to Houston, Texas when she was just Eleven years old – because the majority of refinery plants had closed down. Life became very different for this young lady. Adjusting that – no Christmas snow – not like the state of Illinois have in the winter and for the first time – experience prejudice. The South is not as liberal as the North. Yet she still found her calling and that was to write. To write about - what her eyes see, what her ears hear and how she felt - from not only her pains and joys…but others as well.


Personal Accomplishments

In 1993, (Transferring from Sam Houston State) Tj Baker graduated college with honors in her major area of study and was the first Black student to receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree from Texas Southern University. One of Tj's proudest accomplishments was continuing to earn good grades while managing epilepsy related disability that affected her ability to process thoughts and write. And also having Sickle Cell Trait. Yet Tj never quit. Her hard work and perseverance paid off and will continue to provide dividends for the rest of her life.


Additional Information

In 1995, Tj self-published her first book “The Slumber Party for Black Girls Who Love Poetry Too.” In 2001, her second book was published. It was a short novel called “The Teachings of Miss Ellie Ruth,” about a young black girl coming of age during World War II. “The Teachings of Miss Ellie Ruth” is currently available through all online book retailers.

2005 Tj started her very own political TV show called, “The Constitution” a political show that cares. A Houston Public Access network on CH. 17 - Time Warner Cable. Tj is not the first to have a TV political show…but she is the first Black/African American female Journalist in this field to have her show (thus far) the longest aired. This is Tj’s support and passion in community outreach.


Personal Information

When it comes to Men - finding a soul mate has been a task for Tj. Now she sits being content with just dating and socializing.

First husband – Jason Bradley Johnson in 1992. Divorced in 1998. No Children

Then a six month relationship; With the father of her child - Keith Douglas Baker Sr., in 1996. Came forth (Tj’s proud and joy) a son in October 1, 1997 name Keith Douglas Baker II.

Second husband/Common Law relationship – (Retired) U.S. Army – COL. Anthony Author Holm in 2002. Which Tj stop debating in court, upon proving the truth for several reasons. That horrible episode finally ended in the year of 2005.


Tj and her son reside in Houston, Texas.
