This image is being used for identification of a living public figure who is the subject of an article written for nonprofit informative purposes. It is believed that the use of the image on Wikipedia will have no impact on the commercial value of the image or any other works it is currently used in. Though this image is subject to copyright, its use is covered by the U.S. fair use laws because:

It is a historically significant photo of a well-known individual.
It is of much lower resolution than the original (copies made from it will be of very inferior quality).
The photo is only being used for informational purposes.
Its inclusion in the article adds significantly to the article because the image captures the subject at the pinnacle of his athletic career and cannot be easily replaced with a free image of comparable educational value.

This media was proposed for deletion as a replaceable non-free content. The result was to Keep the image, as no adequate free-licensed image exists or can be created to fulfill the limited role performed by this image at the time deletion was considered. However, this image may be replaceable by free images in other contexts, and in such cases the free image must take precedence. A discussion of this decision may exist on the image talk page.
