[edit] Career

Norris' studio practice is a hybrid of photography, installation, video and sculpture and has been shown in the Americas and the United Kingdom. In Oregon, he is represented by New American Art Union, part of the Central Eastside Arts District. In 2002 Norris founded his signature gallery, Soundvision, which focused on sound-related work, installation and performance. The gallery closed in November 2003. Later that year Beta-lactam Ring Records released Norris' compilation The Tribryd Installation Soundtracks. This collection of soundtracks, based on his photographic works of the industrial face of the Pacific Northwest, included work by composers Scanner (Robin Rimbaud), Asmus Tietchens, Christian Renou, Illusion of Safety and Marc Behrens among others. In 2006, Innova Recordings released a follow-up of mixed, reconstructed versions of these works by eleven additional sound artists including Nobukazu Takemura, Andrew Lagowski (Lustmord) and Troum. Norris was included in the Boston Center for the Arts' 35th Anniversary Exhibition in 2006-07. The Museum of Contemporary Craft included Norris' work in their annual Collaborations show in 2007 and 2008.

[edit] Soundvision

Soundvision was recognized as one of the "10 Best New Places in Portland" by The Oregonian.[citation needed] The gallery featured audio/visual and multimedia work with a focus on installation, 2/3D by artists including Terre Thaemlitz, Cary Leibowitz, and Janek Schaefer. It hosted a series of performances called soundBYTES which included work by Belgian composer vidnaObmana, Twine, Illusion of Safety and the spoken word collective Spare Room (Portland, OR).
