[edit] Talyllyn Railway
I'd love to see the TR article get to GA standard and I'm happy to help in any way I can. I have most of the books that are currently cited as "Bibliography" rather than "References". We should try to use these for inline citations where possible. The history section needs a significant overhaul and expansion, and we could really do with adding pictures of all the carriages. I can certainly help with expanding the article text. Sadly I don't get to north Wales very often, and haven't been to Tywyn in nearly a decade, so I probably can't help with pictures. But please let me know if there's anything else I can help with. Best as always, Gwernol 13:35, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

I've had a look at the Talyllyn Railway article. I can't see any problems with it going further to FA standard. My only little gripe is that the references are a bit repetitive, and that in my experience as a final-year student of History, several could be replaced with "ibid., page 45" etc. However, this is only a matter of personal taste, and that I don't really follow it myself on Wikipedia as it gets a bit tedious. It is also nothing that would seriously hamper its potential as an FA. Well done. I'm off to have a look at your comments on the N15 class now. [edit] Bow Street
Dear Tivedshambo
I see you've added a photo to the Bow Street article - if I'd have known you were going to be in my neck-of-the-woods you could have called in at Pen-y-Garn for a cuppa! I was intending to go out later in the year to take a few snaps myself for inclusion, so am glad to see you've got there before me. Just a suggestion, but might it not be better if the photo was further down the page and the info box was at the top? As I'm still not sure about layouts I didn't know if there were any guidelines about this. Anyway see what you think.
Regards (Lepidus Magnus (talk) 12:57, 7 March 2008 (UTC))

Dear Tivedshambo I see you’ve now uploaded the other photos like you said you would, which are great. I’m more than happy for the one of Bow Street to stay in the info box if that’s general practice. Do you know if there are any example pages for villages/towns on Wikipedia showing prescribed layout, section headings, etc? As I don’t have much time to trawl through page after page of guidelines, examples for me to simply follow would be best. Please do let me know next time you’re passing through and maybe we could meet up at Rhydypennau in the craft centre for a coffee? One question – what is the licence tag you’ve used on the photos? I’ve just tried uploading a picture on to my Commons account but am a bit confused at what to put. Would you take a look and let me know? http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Blanche_Parry.jpg Many thanks. Regards Lepidus Magnus (talk) 16:20, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
Many thanks for the link - I will try and look at the examples listed here to get a feel for a standard layout to follow. Thanks also for checking the licence for the Blanche Parry photo. I wonder if you could suggest a licence for some old photos I've scanned and that I'd like to put up on Wikipedia. I have asked for help at the following: Media_copyright_questions#Scanning_Old_Photos, but would appreciate any help you could give. Regards Lepidus Magnus (talk) 13:04, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] RfA - Toddst1
Hi Tivedshambo, thanks for supporting my RfA, which passed with 42 supports, 0 opposes, and 0 neutrals. Special thanks goes to my nominator, Kakofonous. I'm pleased that the Wikipedia community has trusted me with the mop and I take it very seriously. And thank you for the congratulatory note too! Cheers! Toddst1 (talk) 15:34, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Glad you'll continue working on Talyllyn Railway - we definitely need your help there. When I got the admin bit, I found it did interrupt my article building, and I've recently been trying to redress that with more article construction work. That said, admin work is important too - I'm sure you'll find a good balance. Best, Gwernol 20:29, 14 March 2008 (UTC) |
[edit] Zedla RfA
Sorry for the delay, just saying a quick thank you for your support and participation in my RfA which passed & closed earlier this week. Hope to continue earning the trust of everyone as an admin. – Zedla (talk) 03:17, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Deletion of my Wiki.
what was up with deleting my wiki? did i do something to you?
i specifically said it was under construction, and some jackass came along and deleted the whole thing. turns out it was you.
mind explaining why you just go around deleting other people's work?

[edit] GA on Talyllyn Railway
Hi Tivedshambo. I think we're finally managing to beat the Talyllyn Railway article into something approaching reasonable shape. I feel we should start thinking about a GA review for it. What do you think? I've added a few suggestions for improvements to the talk page. Is there any prospect of you being able to get to Tywyn and take a few photos in the near future? Best, Gwernol 17:10, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] New Admin
I see your a new admin, and as thus you seem to have misunderstood speedy deletion policy. I highly recommend that you take the time to review it. There were MANY pages created last night that should have been deleted and I noticed you took the tag off them. This is not an attack but rather a coaching session.Thright (talk) 17:21, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] AIV in Rfas
I appreciate that. That is one of my future goals. Could you please tell me how you got your neat signature? The tc bit, I mean! Do you have to sign all that after every edit? --Camaeron (talk) 19:35, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Corpet-Louvet
I understand that a Corpet-Louvet metre gauge loco is/was preserved in the museum at Tywyn. If it is still there, can you get a photo of it please? If it is not still there, can you edit the Corpet-Louvet article to show its current location if known? Mjroots (talk) 15:19, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion of Wimba Article
I'm not trying to advertise Wimba and I do not have any affiliation with the company. I am hoping to start an entry on Wimba because of it's widespread use in educational technology. I was trying to structure the article in the same fashion other web conferencing articles in Wikipedia on WebEx, Net Meeting, Web Huddle, etc... are written. Wikipedia is currently lacking any information on a number of major products and tools used across the nation in educational technology from k-12 to higher education such as Wimba, Respondus, Softchalk, Clickers, and ePacks.
How do I make specific requests for articles on these technologies? I couldn't find a specific category in the request entry area that fit these. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.216.167.211 (talk) 17:04, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Oh gawd! What has happened here, all I was trying to do was correct a mistake I made when I first created a entry for him. It seems that the correct spelling of his name is without the capital 'D'. I did leave notes on all the discussion pages to this effect, but my attempts to put in redirects etc. have all been reverted. Hope someone can help! Lepidus Magnus (talk) 14:10, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Many thanks for your help with this. I seem to unintentionally keep throwing a spanner in the works – my sincere apologies. Lepidus Magnus (talk) 14:30, 27 March 2008 (UTC) |
[edit] LSWR N15 class
Hello, Tivedshambo. As you have previously reviewed some railway articles before, would you care to take a look at this one? I am sure there are a few improvements that are required before it is up for promotion. Thanks in advance. Best regards, --Bulleid Pacific (talk) 23:27, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Question?
Dear Tivedshambo
As you and Agathoclea seem to be keeping a watchful eye on me, I wondered if one of you could help me with a little question I have. I’d like to know if there’s any way of hiding the qualifiers you use to distinguish different entries with similar titles, i.e. Tom Macdonald (writer). If not, do you think you could ask someone at Wikipedia if it might be possible to create some kind of command text, such as ‘Title: hide qualifier’, that would do this? Obviously I appreciate the importance of these qualifiers, but I personally think that the overall appearance of pages would be enhanced if they did not actually appear in the entry heading. All of this may well have been mooted elsewhere of course, but as a relatively new user I thought I would just ask.
Regards

[edit] Tom Macdonald Photo
Dear Tivedshambo
I’ve just tried uploading a picture of Tom Macdonald, but I think I might have got it all wrong! Any chance you could take a look please? Sorry to put on you like this, but without internet access from home I don’t have much time to read page after page of instructions, so any help you could give would be most welcome.

Dear Tivedshambo I’ve just got back from lunch and realised that I shouldn’t have uploaded it to Commons, so tried doing it on the main site and then found out you’d got there before me! Many thanks for correcting this. Do we just leave the other one until it’s deleted or is there anyway we can get rid of it? I’ve got a similar photo of Dewi Morgan, so now I know where to upload things I’ll try this too! Regards Lepidus Magnus (talk) 13:16, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] WP:AIV
Just a question. At the moment, I'm not a sysop :( But, I try to help out as much as I can. Could I ask your opinion on something? No? Well, I'm asking anyway :-P. Do you think it's OK, if I review reports and comment on them, like reports that are not within the guidelines for reporting, such as I did here. If you think its not appropriate, I'll stop, but I just try to help wherever I can. Steve Crossin (talk to me) 10:29, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Aww, really? Nah, I know I've learned a lot recently. Someone nommed me for adminship about a week ago, but I declined. I'm just not ready yet. Two months? Has it been that long? Also, I'm creating a template for comments at AIV, it's similar to this one. You think that would be OK? Steve Crossin (talk to me) 11:06, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Talyllyn maps
Thanks for adding the scale to the railway map. I'll probably rebuild the original file with the scale on it, so I have it available for future changes. I'm not sure why you weren't able to load it over the original - it ought to wrok, though occasionally I've had trouble with this too. Nice work on the other map, by the way, its looking much better. Best, Gwernol 14:18, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] speedy deletion of Juscelino Kubitschek Bridge redirect page
I'm not married to my redirect pages, but I'm curious as to why this one was deleted. When I was looking for the page for the Juscelino Kubitschek Bridge, I typed it with a capital B on Bridge, and nothing came up, so I figured there was no article. It never occurred to me that the word "bridge" wasn't part of the official name. I think it would be common for people to make that mistake. Is there a specific policy against that kind of redirect page? Atkinson (talk) 17:46, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
