Tistedal (or Tistedalen) is a part of Halden, Norway. Originally four kilometers from the town centre, the area, from the start growing up around a saw mill, has now been engulfed by Halden itself, although it still maintains a strong identity.
The name Tistedal comes from the river "Tista" and "dal" meaning the valley. With the local dialect the name is pronounced "Tisdærn"
People from Tistedalen are locally known as "Indians" and a hiawata character portrays the supporters of the local sports club Tistedalen Turn og Idrettsforening, TTIF. TTIF's handball team plays in the first division.
Tistedalen is a classic working class community, surrounded by closed down factories. Tistedal has many drug and alcohol related problems. There is strong presence of different religious groups.
Most famous event in Tistedals hitory was a serial killer roaming the streets in the 90s.
