Dr. Tirso del Junco-Mesa (b April 20, 1925 in Havana, Cuba) is a general surgeon, Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery, Fellow of American College of Surgeons.
He is a graduate from the University of Havana medical school. Former president of the medical staff of Queen of Angeles Hospital and Santa Marta Hospital, Los Angeles, California . He is also a member of the medical staff of the Saint Vincent Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital. Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery of the , California College of Medicine - Irvine. He is founder and former Chairman of Los Angeles National Bank. He was Chairman and Member of Board of Regent of University of California. He was Chairman and Member of the Board of Governors of the United States Postal Service. He is a Former delegate to the United States Delegation to the 22nd Conference UNESCO. Former Chairman of the California Republican Party 1980 and again in 1993. Delegate to the Republican National Convention 1968, 1972, 1976, 1980, 1984, 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2004. Former Captain United States Army and Chief of Surgery of Camp Hanford Army Hospital. Former medical officer Cuban Army of liberation "Bay of Pig". He is a Member of American Federation of Television and Radio Arts. Former Ambassador Sovereign Military Order of Malta to Nicaragua. He was a member of the Cuban rowing team at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London, England. Recipient of numerous awards including Americanism medal, Daughters of the American Revolution. He is a Member of the Knight of Magisterial Grace Sovereign Military Order of Malta. Currently, he is a member of the Board of Visitors of the United State Naval Academy. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Molina Medical Group and the Reserve Orange County Sheriffs Professional Services. He is President and Chairman of the Board of the Hollywood Park Charities.
Dr. del Junco has resided in the United States since 1949 and is married to a native Californian of Mexican American heritage, and they have four children. One of his children is Tirso del Junco-Bobadilla, a noted surgeon in his own right. His parents were Alberto del Junco-Andre and Violeta Mesa.
