Admin
Tiptoety, you are a committed editor here, with an impressive record, and you really have the qualities to be an admin, in fact I can't understand why you aren't. Age should not be a barrier, since we have had 13 and 14-yo admins already. If you think you can take the heat, why don't you go for it? I would support you all the way. --Rodhullandemu (Talk) 01:30, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for showing your confidence in me as a user here, it is much appreciated. I would also like to commend you for all of your great contributions to the project. The reason i have not held another RfA is because i am honoring my promise from my last RfA to wait until someone else has nominated me. Plus i have been waiting for the "right time", but to be honest i am not sure when the "right time" is, who knows it may be now, or in 5 months. :) Tiptoety talk 02:26, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
- I don't know when your last RfA was; it doesn't matter that much to me, except that a too-soon RfA would be seen as premature, particularly if there were issues there that were not perceived as addressed between then and now. However, when I look at what an admin should be doing, you appear to be admirably qualified right now. I will gladly nominate you myself, subject to looking at your previous RfA. If you feel confident, please count me on your side. My view is that the project could do with admins exactly like you. --Rodhullandemu (Talk) 02:46, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
- I would be honored to have you as my admni nominator. Like you stated my first RfA was pre-mature and was me not completely grasping what a administrator does here at the project. My second one had some contreversial issues in it, which i have fixed sense. One issue is that i had a userbox stating that i was a police officer, when in fact i am only a police cadet, I have sense removed that userbox along with any others that have been viewed as controversial. The decision to nominate me is 100% up to you and if you feel that the concerns raised in my previous RfA's have not been adequately dealt with by me, then feel free to let me know and i would be happy to improve and wait. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 05:59, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
- Hi there; I've had a chance to look at your last RfA, and I hadn't realised it was that recent- whilst I think you are ready to go again, it's clear from looking at other RfAs that a gap of three months is usually the minimum acceptable. Also, looking at your stats, your Talkspace edits are still almost twice those to Mainspace, and that will be against you. I think it probably best to wait a little while yet and see if you can bump up your Mainspace tally; I will gladly nominate you then. Regards, --Rodhullandemu (Talk) 17:05, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Again, I'm astonished, since I last saw your latest post in WP:ANI]. It is, to me, sad that when it comes to an RfA, it seems to be numbers that matter more than attitude or ability. Your attitude is what matters, but an RfA seems to be geared towards numbers, and that is why I suggested yesterday that you should address that issue. It has been suggested to me that I should go for admin myself, but to be honest, I would not feel happy about a self-nomination. Sadly, there are some people who think that that is self-aggrandisement, but I suspect that they really imagine that being an admin is only about wielding power; and, of course, it isn't. It is more about commitment to the values of the project than anything else, and the "big stick" of course comes with a responsibility to "speak softly". As I say, you would be a good admin when the time comes, and it won't be long; and I'll gladly support you. Regards, --Rodhullandemu (Talk) 04:53, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for that; the mop & bucket is no big thing, really. I have had my name down for admin mentorship since October, but only because I think I can do it, although that process is totally stalled. User:Jehochman, a major player here, has indicated that I am ready and should go for it, but I am still undecided. I need to get some things sorted out for myself here; but I am on a knife-edge as to whether I should put myself forward. There are some people, sadly, who think a self-nom is somehow arrogant; I don't see that, considering that almost everything you do as an admin is open to review. Thanks for your support, but now may not be the best time for me. Tomorrow, however....--Rodhullandemu (Talk) 05:17, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
Oregon GA COTW
Howdy to WikiProject Oregon members, time for another edition of the Collaboration of the Week. As you may have already noticed, our flagship article Oregon is up for the third time as we make a push to get WP:GA status before going for WP:FA. Since this will take some time to get where it needs to be, this will be the COTW for more than just a week. Also, so we hopefully don’t trip over ourselves, try to coordinate on the article’s talk page. Once again, to opt out or suggest future collaborative efforts, click here.
On another note, just a general good job/pat on the back to the project for a great 2007, the first full year of the project. We had 83 DYKs about Oregon, improved one article to FA, and went from around 4 GAs to 17 GAs. Plus numerous new articles, improvements to existing, the introduction of the COTW, and the introduction of article assessment at the project. Again, great job and here’s to a new year. Hey there, I'm writing to inform you that I have withdrawn my request for adminship, which was currently standing at 11 supports, 22 opposes and 6 neutrals. This count could have been so much better if I had understood policy, although I believe that 17 questions is a lot to ask of a user's first RfA. Thanks for the star. I like to find useful bits amoungst the garbage. Sometimes there is a real gem! That's what makes WP:AFC work attractive. If you don't have enough to do, go back and look at some of that stuff from 2006. There is still a couple of months worth of contributions to sort through. About you denial of a request for creation on 2008-01-24
Yesterday, 2008-01-24, I added a request for creation of an article on a sofware title called MagicDisc. You have denied the request and referred me to the notability guidelines.
What I do not understand is the difference between this specific piece of software, which actually has been referred to in Wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ISO_image_software and does have an "empty" article, and similar competitors. As I had written in my request for creation, if an article on the Daemon-Tools Suite is "encyclopedic" so is an article on MagicDisc.
Moreover, my request article was in a rather unbiased tone similar to many other articles on software products already present on Wikipedia.
As for the notability bit, this piece of software is quite as "notable" as any other software with a purpose, e.g. Microsoft Windows, Winamp, the Bourne Again Shell, the C Shell, OpenBSD, IBM z/OS, Dilo web browser, Mozilla FireFox, PuTTY, the OpenSSH suite and others. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.147.204.123 (talk) 11:08, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
- If you feel that i made an error (which i very well could have, I am only human) than re-submit your request and i will take another look, or let another editor look it over. Tiptoety talk 14:59, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Someone complained that a user is blanking his own page. But this shows that he is receiving the warnings. This is good, not bad! Whoaslow (talk) 03:59, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
- Well, there is the controversy, some users think it is just a way for trolls to remove warnings from their page in hopes of disrupting wikipedias anti-vandal process and making it harder for newer vandal fighters to know if the user has been previously warned. While others agree with your point of view that if the user blanks, that means they have read them. Tiptoety talk 04:04, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

AfC
Hi Tiptoety! I noticed that when you review articles at AfC, you seem to be using a different template to others. At the top it might have {{#switch:|accept={{afc a}}|mm={{afc mm}}|#default={{afc r}}}}. What's the score here? I've recently started helping at this page. I find it's a great way to force you to read all the policies! Best regards, MSGJ (talk) 23:18, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
- Sure, it depends on if i am using the script (which can be found here) or not. If i am using Firefox or IE then i use the script and it auto closes the submission for me. But when i am not using the script i close it myself, and the form in which i do that changes (it depends on which template i can remember off the top of my head). I would recommend using the script as it does it for you nice and easy. If you have any more questions, or if i just confused you even more let me know and i will do my best to help. Cheers! Speedy deletion of Wake Forest Demon Deacons football, 1940-1949
I see nothing wrong with this page as it is. I styled this page, as all Wake Forest history pages off of the Florida Gators historical pages. What is wrong with it?Rebajc3 (talk) 17:38, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- I have no problem with it now, but when you created the article it lacked much needed content and appeared to be more of just statistics (which violates WP:NOT#STATS). But like i said you added the proper information and it looks fine now. Next time i recommend that you use a sandbox to test your article in before creating it. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 23:33, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Clown COTW
Greetings once again to members of the best encyclopedia online about Oregon (aka WP:ORE)! Last week we improved Neil Goldschmidt to close to GA level, and moved the Wells Fargo Center from Stub to Start for the Collaboration of the Week. This week we’re clowning around with some bozo from Oregon, Pinto Colvig, and then in an attempt to garner another DYK, the rather stubby Cooper Spur. As always, any contribution is appreciated, and to opt out of these messages visit here.
As we have quite a few new members over the last six months, I’ll make another pitch for our various subprojects. Listed here, you will find a variety of groups focused on specific areas of Oregon from transportation to culture. Not only can you sign up and coordinate work there, but each often has useful sources and templates related to that topic. No pressure, just an introduction to those new to the project. Adios. Profg/Archtransit
FYI, this was already checkusered at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Profg. More likely, if I had to guess, Fairchoice (talk · contribs) was created by Archtransit (talk · contribs) for drama/amusement/whatever when he saw Profg's call for meat puppets. Profg (talk · contribs) has revealed his real life identity in the past on Wikipedia. I communicated with him off Wikipedia where he confirmed it - he is a public person whose real life identity is not in question. His motivation for being here and his behavior was obviously incompatible with Wikipedia, but he is most certainly not Archtransit or someone who would engage in Archtransit's childish games. --B (talk) 02:03, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks for clearing that up. Feel free to correct anything i have said/done on AN/I or related to Profg/Archtransit that is incorrect. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 02:05, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
Adoption
I aceept your offer of adoption. Thank you, I've been looking for an adopter for a while now, I'm glad someone has offered. Can we discuss the details on my talk page? Steve Crossin (talk) 05:00, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
- On the topic of warning that user, I'm not sure which warning template to use. Which one would you suggest? Steve Crossin (talk) 05:17, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
- I gave a warning to the user. My main concern at the moment, is there is a user, who is intent on merging almost all the characters into one article. Does this template WP:FICTWARN also apply to articles that have been tagged for merging?
Im reading up on some policies right now. Steve Crossin (talk) 05:37, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
- So, does this mean, that the injunction only prevents the deletion of fictional characters, or TV series episodes? A user who has been aggressive with merges before, commented that the injunction was of "little relevance". [2] I tried asking an arbitrator on their talk page for clarification, however I got no response. Is there any way to have the injunction enforced? I am just concerned that I might make an edit, and have the page merged anyway. Steve Crossin (talk) 06:00, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
- I've checked that injunction a lot, however when the injunction was pointed out to them, they said: "That has a small relation to this case. The fact that policies and guidleines are still being breeched is not being addressed by this pointless procrastinating" [3] Is there a possibility of a move protection for the articles, if attempts to merge, or redirect the pages, persist? I also have a question about WP:FICT. What makes an external source credible? Is it specifically asking for newspaper articles? because not many would exist for 24 characters, I believe. I found some sources for Karen Hayes, they are on that articles talk page. Would you be able to, at some point, check the links there, and see if they are OK to use as citations. Thanks. Steve Crossin (talk) 06:22, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
- Is it OK with you if I reorganise your comments on my talk page? I would only be adding bullets next to the comments, it just improves the layout of the page, and improves readability. Your actual comments would not be modified. Is this OK? I'll wait for the all-clear before I make the edit. Steve Crossin (talk) 06:26, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
I saw your comments on the Karen Hayes talk page, what did you think of the other external links? I just did a Yahoo search.Steve Crossin (talk) 15:21, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

- Just saw your revised comment. Would you suggest the article be rewritten? And, if so, would you be willing to help at all? Steve Crossin (talk) 15:24, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
WP:AFC Backlog Drive
WikiProject Articles for creation needs your help! | |
WikiProject Articles for creation has done a tremendous job in working at WP:AFC over the past 7½ months. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication! Together, we've made the submission process easier and more streamlined, developed tools to make the process go faster for reviewers, and cut the backlog down to a mere fraction of what it once was. Well done! As you all are aware, however, our work is not quite yet done. The project still has 10 archive pages left to complete, which include over half a month's worth of submissions, many of which have not been completely reviewed. We need your help to finish looking over these neglected submissions so that we can finally remove the backlog notice from the page, and put an end to the more than two year old backlog that has been a thorn in our side for ages! Participants will receive an AFC Barnstar, so hurry up and help out while there's still work to be done! Make sure to sign in on the WikiProject's talk page so we know who is involved in what promises to be our final effort to complete this goal. Thank you for all your help! |
You are receiving this letter because you are listed as a participant in the Articles for creation WikiProject at WP:WPAFC. To avoid receiving further notices, please remove your name from the list. Thanks!
Rollback userbox
I just deleted the page User:Rjd0060/temp which contained that userbox I made. I see you have it on your userpage. If you want, I can give you the code for it and you can store it in your own userspace. - Rjd0060 (talk) 02:16, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
