[edit] Last over of the Tied Test

Ah. I was basing it on the "Weak Victorian" as told by Greg Matthews -- Ian ≡ talk 16:21, 28 September 2005 (UTC)

You're right of course: .21.W -- Ravi Shastri couldn't score off the first ball, and the 2nd ball he had to step down the track to pick up a couple of important runs. The 3rd ball, Shastri played a wristy push to squareleg to take a quick single. Thus exposing the last batsman Maninder Singh, who was a typical No.11 of those days. We harldy see a typical No.11 these days however. Maninder couldn't score off the fourth ball of the over and India still needed 1 run to win and Australia had to either bowl two dot balls or dismiss Maninder. Greg Mathews took the second option and bowled a sharp offbreak and Maninder was wrapped on his pads. A loud appeal followed from the Aussies and the umpire Vikram Raju acknowledged that to mark the end of the Indian innings. [1] -- Ian ≡ talk 16:35, 28 September 2005 (UTC)
By the way, thankyou for those 2 links last week - more reading to do! -- Ian ≡ talk 16:51, 28 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Ravi Shastri and broken promises

Tintin, many apologies for not yet copyediting Ravi Shastri - I've been busy setting up the politics portal and didn't want that to stagnate, but I promise to go through your article as soon as I can. I've seen Nichalp's comments, which look much better than mine, but I hope I can help in the mean time. --HighHopes (T)(+)(C)(E)(P) 02:41, 29 September 2005 (UTC)

Tintin, thanks for your message - and sorry over the misunderstanding re. Shastri's ability against the quicks; pure misunderstanding. I'll come back to the copyedit, but I left a couple of comments on the peer review page that might be help first - let me know. Thanks, --HighHopes (T)(+)(C)(E)(P) 16:10, 29 September 2005 (UTC)
Hey, thanks for the breakup of my stats. I'm not trying to write about AdM, just wanted to expand it a bit. As for RS, I'll wait till the article is copyedited, I'm not good at cpediting myself. I wonder if Sundar or Kaal would be willing to take some time off....? User:Nichalp/sg 10:14, 29 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Dhyan Chand

Even my knowledge on this particular aspect is quite dated (by a decade atleast). So if you wish to make changes go ahead, but I'm 80% sure of this fact that Dhyan has 2 statues which even naidu can't match. Tx Idleguy 14:12, 29 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Copyedit

I'll do some copyediting after noon. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 04:01, 30 September 2005 (UTC)

Am not able to think of subsection titles right away. Will let you know if I think of some. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 14:20, 3 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] chucking

It depends if you're going to be nice or not! - just joking - I'll copy it up in a few minutes -- Ian ≡ talk 13:54, 1 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] God's bhoothaganagals

Thanks for that, Tintin. Beats tonnere de Brest or even God's bodkins as an oath. Maybe I'll adopt it (if I can get my tongue around it). Dlyons493 Talk 17:56, 3 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Playfair

Hi Tintin, thanks for your message. Unfortunately I don't -- I've never collected Playfair, for some reason. --Ngb ?!? 09:29, 4 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Copyvio question

When a page has been reported as a copyvio and the template is in place- you shouldn't remove or write anything under the template since the page needs to be deleted to remove the copyvio from the history. However, on the template there is a link to a temporary subpage- you can rewrite article on the temporary page and then the new page will be moved back to the correct name when the original page has been deleted. I hope that anwsers your question. --nixie 00:50, 6 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Dharmasastra by Kane

Hi, I don't think I can delete the afd tag from the article when the discussion is on. However, I think I can voice my opinion that the article must be a Keep on the discussion page and I will do that. Thanks for reminding me. --Gurubrahma 05:56, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] userfy

Should I move it to Mayashu's subpage? Userfy seems a little vague, in all probability, it will hardly attract any cleanup crew. It really needs to be done, you can go ahead, and move the page (+inform the user). User:Nichalp/sg 06:14, 9 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Brain Teasers:

Hi, just sending out a friendly notice stating that I have now got brain teasers on my user page. Will post new questions one day after the older ones have been answered. Thanks, Spawn Man 06:17, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Mannathu Padmanabhan

{{PD-IndiaGov}} I'd also asked the TN government earlier, and they have no issues, except to quote the source whereever appropriate. Reasonable IMO. Since the Right to Information Act has just been passed, I doubt there'll be any vio issues. User:Nichalp/sg 04:42, 13 October 2005 (UTC)

The above image which you uploaded is tagged {{AustraliaGov}} but I'm wondering if it should be {{PD-Australia}}. What do you think? -- Ian ≡ talk 06:47, 19 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Smokers v Non-Smokers

Looks as though Scotton wasn't the first man to be out "handled the ball" in f-c cricket; details on the talk page and in this Cricinfo article. The story behind Scotton's dismissal is fun, though, so I've left that bit in. Loganberry (Talk) 01:58, 20 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

Hey, thanks! Though it looks like we will have to keep vigil on the IIPM article for a while. Good job there, btw, especially on the POV. -- Kunal 17:49, 20 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Common names of cricketers

Tintin1107 said: Bobo, I changed the names of some of the cricketers in your user page to the names they are better known as. Hope that's okay.

Absolutely, yes please. My original intention was going to be to include the full names of the cricketers (middle names excluded) and then pipe to the common names, but that solution is much neater.

I'm planning to include a list of names on there soon from other, non-test playing countries such as Denmark, France, Italy, Papua, and several others. See what I can do. Maybe too ambitious.

PS: Apologies. I initially put this on your user page. One too many, maybe. Bobo192 19:28, 20 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Bodyline news clipping

I would say yes, it's most certainly it's in the PD. No question. -- Ian ≡ talk 13:22, 22 October 2005 (UTC)

Hang on! (he says back pedalling madly). It's a news clipping and not a photograph and I'm a bit unsure what the difference is, if any. Let me ask and I'll get back to you. -- Ian ≡ talk 13:26, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
It would appear to be OK. See Template_talk:PD-Australia - Regards Ian ≡ talk 03:10, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Forest clay

You placed a speedy delete tag on Forest clay. However, you used {{delete}} which indicates no reason for the suggested deletion, nor did you supply a reason in your edit summery. Please use {{db}} in future, or one of the specialized templates, such as {{db-bio}}. This makes it much easier for the deleting admin. Also, when tagging an article with {{db-bio}} (or its alternate name {{nn-bio}}) it is suggested that you notify the creator of the page with {{nn-warn}}. Thank you for pointing out this article which does look like a good deletion candidate. DES (talk) 06:46, 23 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you

Yes. :) I don't remember our meeting, but I am glad that in the end I was able to resolve the disputes with the editor. I can also assure you that I am neither Pakistani nor Indian, so I don't have a good or bad view of either side. Thank you for your comment and understanding. Perhaps in time, you can introduce me to this game you call "cricket". ;) --a.n.o.n.y.m t 21:58, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

well theres a mistake here...thampis are the children of the ruler and a high caste nair lady while unnithan/unnithiri and valiathan are children of kshatriyas who have no claim to the throne....in the keralamahatmayam they are called Samantha kshatriyas...manu

[edit] BlackJack articles

Tintin, I agree with you. I collaborate with George on here about philately but he's also a cricket fan and he thinks my articles should get recognition, which is nice of him. I went along with him up to a point but, no, a line should be drawn. I accept his right to put me in the List of works by cricket historians and writers if he wants to; but the more I think about it, he's wrong about the sources unless someone else had used my ACS version to create the WP version. But they didn't. I was the author of both and so I cannot become the source of the second. The sources must be the same in any version I write. If I one day write a book of all this material, the sources will still be Buckley, Waghorn & Co.

Thanks for pointing this out because you have in fact saved me a bit of embarrassment. I can now point to this issue for clarification. --Jack 20:00, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

No need to be embarrassed. Tintin made a valid point and I was wrong. Thanks, Tintin. I've written accordingly on the issues page. --GeorgeWilliams 23:00, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
