Hi Tintin, and welcome to the 'pedia. Thanks for the tip on Talk:Cricket. Those edits count as link spam and I've reverted them. I'm sure the user means well, but that was over the top. Best, Tannin 21:53, 8 May 2005 (UTC)

Thanks, Tannin. Still fairly new here. So wasn't sure whether it could be done.

[edit] Wikipedia:WikiProject Cricket

Hi Tintin

It's really about time you signed up to Wikipedia:WikiProject Cricket! It's where we discuss various cricket-related articles and questions we may have. You'd be more than welcome.

Also, I've just started a page Wikipedia:WikiProject Cricket/Collaboration of the fortnight page (on Smoddy's suggestion). Please check it out, see if it's something you'd be interested in looking at. All the best, jguk 17:07, 15 May 2005 (UTC)

Thanks, jguk. Just joined. Tintin1107 17:36, 15 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Cricket collaboration of the fortnight

The Ashes has been selected as the first cricket collaboration of the fortnight with four support votes. Let's all now make it up to featured status before the first Test. Kind regards, jguk 07:29, 22 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion

Tintin

I'm not an admin, so I can't delete things for you. Where it is something that absolutely obviously has to be deleted (such as a typo in a heading, where someone searching for that article would never type that in the search box by mistake), it's best to add {{db|typo in article title should be XXXXX}} to the top of an article (the "db" stands for "delete because"). Where it is a spelling mistake that someone could type in by error, it's normally best to make the page a redirect (easily done by "move"ing the page to where it should be - or alternatively by changing the text to #redirect[[page name that you want to redirect to]]. It is only where you want to delete an article on the grounds that it (and its content) should not appear in Wikipedia full stop, that you need to add anything to VfD. Kind regards, jguk 07:33, 26 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Hugh Bartlett

I've nominated your new article on Hugh Barlett for "Did You Know?" (Template talk:Did you know). If successful, it would mean your article gets on the front page in the "Did You Know?" section on the bottom right of the Main Page. If we swamp them with cricket articles, they won't all get on, but it's always worth bearing in mind when you write a new article from scratch. If it appears on the front page, at the very least it tends to get a thorough copyedit from Main Page buffs. Kind regards, jguk 20:38, 26 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Did you know?

[edit] Invincibles

Hmm, I can't recall my source but the statement is clearly wrong. Please feel free to amend it. - Ian 08:05, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I recall now that the source was talking about all first class matches in a tour - not necessarily tests only. - Ian 08:32, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)
See article now - hopefully that's a bit better. (and 85 is good! - I'll try again in a month and see if I can get there). - Ian 09:08, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] MCC

You're right; I probably missed that as there was only one match (WA v MCC) that was played on the tour other than the Centenary Test, which of course was as England not MCC. Go ahead and change it; thank you for spotting that. Loganberry (Talk) 16:37, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Studds

Thanks - will sort. I'm amazed that no-one had done them a page before! :) A curate's egg 28 June 2005 09:40 (UTC)

Thanks once more - your help is appreciated! :) A curate's egg 28 June 2005 13:47 (UTC)

[edit] Cricket poetry

I've recently bought the newly published book 'A Breathless Hush...' The MCC anthology of cricket verse, edited by David Tayvern Allen with Hubert Doggart ISBN 0-413-77215-2. I'll add something from there in due course. The book has many of the greats, plus a few new ones, such as a specially commissioned poem from the current British poet laureate, Andrew Motion. Kind regards, jguk 4 July 2005 20:25 (UTC)

[edit] Names

I'm almost afraid to ask what kind of disease... --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 09:34, 12 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Dawood

I guess so. What I know about the structure of Indian domestic cricket could be written on a postage stamp, so I'm pretty much guessing based on what Cricinfo and Cricket Archive say, jguk 19:31, 17 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Tied Test

No I didn't. I've left it as far as I'm able/interested enough to go. Please feel free to expand as you think appropriate. Regards - Ian ≡ talk 14:11, 24 July 2005 (UTC)

Likewise - time for bed! - Ian ≡ talk 14:17, 24 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Cricket Project

Hello, Tintin, and thanks for welcoming me to the cricket pages. I've signed up for the project and am interested in adding 17th Century info. All the best.

[edit] On the battle of basantar

The line i added was an opinion that I've come across many pakistani defence journalist, ex-army men (who served in pak army) etc. It does not have a source though. Moreover I should have mentioned in the article that it was among the humbling defeats in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. It would be impossible to compare battles across different wars including Khemkaran, however I'll add a link somewhere appropriately. On the issue of expanding the latter topic, I was planning to start a topic on asal uttar until you pointed me to that link. Now i'll wikify with enough links to the original war. Thanx. [edit] List of Test cricket records

Re: this - you're both right and I'm wrong - apologies - Ian ≡ talk 15:11, 9 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Malcolm Marshall

Thanks for spotting my howler about his wicket total - I must have been asleep at the time! Loganberry (Talk) 22:26, 10 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] pottekkad

SK is an ezhava for sure. Pl add it in the ezhava page

[edit] Historians and Statisticians

Hello, Tintin. Yes, that's a good idea. I have quite a bit of biographical material re the likes of Haygarth, Waghorn, Ashley-Cooper and others though nothing at all re G B Buckley, who to me is the mystery man of cricket writing!!

I'll add it to my list of things to do and I'll start off a few stubs in due course.

All the best.

[edit] Re: Collaboration of the fortnight

Hi Tintin, thanks for your message. I would like to see the COTF change every fortnight. I changed it a couple of times when jguk was away, but I have no internet access at home at the moment, so I'm unable to do anything about it now. I did make some notes in Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Cricket/Collaboration_of_the_fortnight#How_to_change_the_COTF to describe how to change it. I'll leave another message there now too. Stephen Turner 08:45, 15 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks!

Hiya. Just wanted to thank you for supporting my recent RfA. Cheers! --Ngb 19:38, 16 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for the barnstar

I dunno whether you're supposed to do this, but thanks anyway. Made my morning. :) (btw, great work on West Indies cricket team - I'm just wondering whether it gets a bit long and dry?) Sam Vimes 06:54, 18 August 2005 (UTC)

It's quite good. I've done some minor fixings, but good job. I still think it's possible to cut down at least some bits of the 50s, 60s and 70s - and perhaps cut out the "notable" batsmen and bowlers section, since most of them are already mentioned in the history section? Sam Vimes 08:32, 20 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Mohanlal

Sorry,I didn't gave you any reason for deleting your contribution in the Mohanlal page.Well,I can give you the reason now.

The movies given in the Important films starring Mohanlal section was worth a mention. You added some more good movies to that list. But some worthless ones too crept in.Peruvannapurathe Visheshangal doesn't need a mention because he was in a guest role,I believe.Bhoomiyile Rajakkanmar doesn't need a mention when there is Rajavinte Makan. Is it that important?

For such reasons only I deleted them.Sorry for not writing the reason. Also the list became so long that I thought it was better to start a new page that lists all the movies of Mohanlal.

[edit] Guru Nitya Chaitanya Yathi

Guru Nitya Chaitanya Yathi is an Ezhava . Some Ezhavas of south Kerala have Panicker title

[edit] cricket image

That's a very old image of mine (Image:Positions.jpg). I thought it was long deleted. I'd made Image:Cricketposnsmswd.png later on to replace it. Just last week I'd requested a user to for a new image. The current cricket figures are not to scale, and the 30 yard circle is not correctly drawn. I hope the user can draw it.
