[edit] Mineola Station's South Platform

I noticed this one quote here on your article on Mineola (LIRR station);

"There are two side platforms, though the south platform is configured to accommodate an island platform if a third track on the Main Line is constructed."

Are you sure this was configured to handle the former LIRR line between Mineola & West Hempstead (LIRR station)? I've been through the station, and know about that aspect of it's history, but never got a good look at the platform you're talking about. ----DanTD 17:04, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

I was merely saying nothing more than what the sentence says: that the eastbound platform should have enough space to allow for the third mainline track. The logical expectation is it would become an island platform because it's a major station. I have to find the source for that, perhaps from the documents from the 3rd track project, but I remember reading about that. According to this picture (from [1]), the eastbound platform was extended over the ROW to West Hempstead. I don't know anything about history of the station layout other than the present; whether or not there had been a third track previously or if the platform was in a different location. Maybe this answers your question, maybe not. Tinlinkin (talk) 14:20, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
