Tinora High School (Defiance, Ohio)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tinora High School is a public high school near Defiance, Ohio, USA. It is the only high school in the Northeastern Local Schools district. Their nickname is the Rams, taken from their team mascot. They are a member of the Green Meadows Conference.

The source of the unusual name "Tinora" is the result of combining the names of the other schools comprising the Northeastern Local School district.[1]

The schools are:

Tiffin Elementary - the source of "TI" (Now closed) (Tiffin Township)

Noble Elementary - the source of "NO" (Noble Township)

North Richland Adams Elementary - the source of "RA" (Now closed) (North Richland and Adams Townships)

Put together in this order, these letters spell TINORA.

Tinora was formed in the age of school consolidation with each of the township schools. Previously each of the 3 elementary schools were full K-12 schools. Both Tiffin elementary and NRA elementary closed with the opening of the Tinora Elementary School in 2002. TES now houses grades 2-6, while Noble Elementary provides the facilities for K-1.
