Tinley Park Police Department (TPPD) is a municipal police department, located in Tinley Park, Illinois in Cook County, and is comprised of 1 chief of police, 3 commanders, 8 sergeants and 59 patrol officers serving a community of more than 50,000 people since 1809. The department also has 26 reserve officers. The department has many different specialists such as 2 D.A.R.E. officers, a S.W.A.T. team and 2 motorcycle units. The department just purchased 14 police cars under the direction of Chief O'Connell. In 2005 the department received 2 motorcycles from Chi-Town Harley Davidson the local motorcycle dealer and has 4 specially trained officers to use the motorcycles. The department also has an animal control department and bike patrol. The D.A.R.E. program is a very large one that provides drug education to all of the elementary schools in the town.
News Tinley Park Police department were the primary responders/investigators to the shooting murders at the Tinley Park Lane Bryant store. Detective Pat St. John headed the investigation.
