Tina's Pals

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tinas’s Pals is a set of teenager characters featured at the Monica's Gang comic strips. Their stories are aimed for a more teenager group of readers, rather than the kids who would read other Mauricio de Sousa’s works. However, Mauricio prefers not to mention drugs, sex, alcoholic drinks, or other similar subjects, which are very popular among teenagers. Instead, the strips are written with themes related to school and university, dating, problems with parents, etc. When created, in the mid sixties, Tina and Rolo were two hippie, peace-loving easy-going teens. As the eighties arrived, Mauricio left the hippie style and started to work with a less particular way of life for them.

[edit] Characters

  • Tina – A short form to say Cristina, Tina is a nice girl. She’s interested in fashion, music and beauty. She loves to dance and hang out with her friends. Among her pals, Tina is the least interested in dating.
  • Curly (Rolo) – Curly is a calm, easy-going guy. His greatest passion, and most frequent subject of his strips, are women. He enjoys spending hours trying to date any beautiful girl who appears in front of him, by any means necessary. Another passion of him (not as great as women) is music. He plays the electric and acoustic guitar, sometimes alone, sometimes in a band.
  • Puff (Pipa) – Tina’s best friend, very cheerful and passionate. But, above all those qualities, Puff is very jealous of her boyfriend Steve, which lead to constant arguments between the couple. Still, they always end together as strongly as before.
  • Steve (Zecão) – Puff’s boyfriend, a calm, quite immature guy, who seems to enjoy watching TV more than dating Puff. But his love for Puff is really strong, even though Puff keeps distrusting him.
  • Baixinho – Curly’s best friend. As the name suggests (Baixinho is a slang for a short person), Baixinho is not a tall guy, at all. Although it is Curly who have to save him from the troubles he get himself involved to, he is frequently giving advice for Curly, specially when he is doing one of his many attempts to date a girl.
  • Jaime – Sometimes he appears as Tina’s boyfriend, but Tina is often seen hanging around with other boys. He owns a motorcycle.
  • Toneco – Tina’s little brother. As a pre-teen of some eleven years old, he complains that Tina doesn’t allow him to hang out with his friends or girls, for her doesn’t think he’s old and mature enough.
