I've trimmed the most obscure characters off the template - most of them only making one appearence in 23 albums, and are not even described in the Minor characters in Tintin article, even though they re-direct. Please keep the list to notable characters. Poulsen 21:46, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

I've removed Jo, Zette and Jocko from this list - although there are some very subtle crossovers between the two series, J,Z&J never appeeared in any Tintin adventure. They cannot reasonably be classed as "Tintin characters". Joe King 09:45, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] None of the above

  • Templates should not be large monochrome boxes containing an indiscriminate and enormous collection of links; and both these qualify. Is this template going to be placed on any article ever which doesn't already link to Snowy? and if so which? Please consider a small template, on the model of {{otherarticles}}, which links to a central list of links. Septentrionalis 04:16, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
  • Something like the below...?  David Kernow 05:08, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
The Adventures of Tintin
Main characters · Supporting characters · Books · Film and television · Miscellaneous

I'd definitely favor a split of the template. I did something similar with {{Digimon}} (which was once this big). It got split into a general and seasons templates. Just have a general template plus another for the specific (e.g. a "main character of tintin" template and so on) and it'll be fine. Circeus 13:53, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

  • Okay, I volunteer to set up the above a few days hence if noone objects. Regards, David Kernow 16:43, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
    • Good; three lines may work better than two Septentrionalis 00:25, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
The Adventures of Tintin
Main characters · Supporting characters
Books · Film and television · Miscellaneous
  • Done. Opted for the original two-line format as (a) easier to align; (b) three-line version looked stumpy in situ; (c) less chance of clicking unwanted link. Regards, David Kernow 09:07, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Changes?

First off, I wholeheartedly agree that the former renditions of the template was overtly detailed and confusing, but the new spartan format seems to have a few shortcomings as well. As I see it, there's no idea in having links to List of books in The Adventures of Tintin series and List of film and television adaptations of The Adventures of Tintin when there alredy exists the all-including Tintin books, films, and media article. I propose the two existing links (and their articles) be removed and the collective "Tintin books, films, and media" article featured instead.

Also, the main characters are already described and linked to in the main Tintin page, and having an entire article dedicated to mention those four characters yet again, seems weird. To me, at least some of miscellany articles might as well go directly into the template instead of having yet another article which functions only as a list of seven links.

I like the supporting characters idea, but unfortunately it is highly subjective. Fore example, how come Mitsuhirato is a supporting character when he only appears in one book? What makes him more or less "supporting" than Laszlo Carreidas? Also, I propose that all three character lists be included in the template; Supporting, Minor and Complete list.

An alternative template might look like:

The Adventures of Tintin
Creation of Tintin · Books, films, and media · Ideology of Tintin
Characters: Supporting · Minor · Complete list
Miscellany: Hergé · Marlinspike · Captain Haddock's exclamations

What do you think? Poulsen 12:39, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

  • I agree; the current template links to pages that are just links. Kinda redundant, I think. Jellyfisho 16:08, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
    • Okay, I'll go ahead with the changes. Poulsen 17:02, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Changes, pt II

Why does this template link List of exclamations used by Captain Haddock when it's simply a redirect to Captain Haddock? When this template becomes unlocked I will be proposing some changes. -b 11:04, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

It used to exist; I guess it got deleted. --Jellyfisho 14:35, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
Funny how it never got changed then stuck on the main page. I look some and some of the earlier templates were excessive, but I don't see a template for each book too excessive. Then another of Tintin topics? -b 19:31, 7 January 2007 (UTC), 20:00, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
I've got ahead and deleted the exclamations link from the template, as it was confusing as it was. —Quasirandom 03:45, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Is this still needed?

It is a very hyphenated version of Template:Tintin and Hergé. Shouldn't that one only be used now? --BrokenSphereMsg me 16:08, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
