Talk:Tinsley Marshalling Yard
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Thanks to muchness for getting round to stubbing the article for me - it was hte next thing on my list.
A quick question though - is Tinsley genuinely 100% derelict? I know it's a shadow of its former self (no hump, no loco depot, no exit to the Midland "old road" nor the Midland main line at Brightside etc.), but I was under the impression that it is still used by some freight trains.BaseTurnComplete 20:38, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
- It is still in use, but only just. Apparently it is used daily, by EWS to move steel slabs, from the steelworks.
-
- Yard's in use by EWS for Avesta Polarit (Outo Kumpo) and its daily train(s) from Immingham. Steel comes to and from Sweden. DRS are looking into building a bran new depot at Tinsley. Captain scarlet 15:18, 29 March 2006 (GMT)

- What times do these trains arrive/leave, and where is the best place to view them from? Also do they go up to Rotherham or down to Sheffield?

-
-
- Trains arrive first thing in the morning and leave last thing in the evening, i couldn't tell you the times. Since the south western curve is not in use (but usable) trains coming from Immingham Docks use the GCR. Donny avoiding line, Mexbro, Aldwarke, Rotherham Central, Tinsley and Tinsley Yard. at 19:12 i saw a class 66 passing under tinsley viaduct, towards the yard. is this now the normal time, or is it just the weekends?(86.137.34.252 20:01, 23 April 2006
- That could very well be a freight train going to Stocksbridge rather than Tinsley Yard. Captain scarlet 22:40, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
-
- ah right, so the trains to stocksbridge have to enter the yard, then leave it again. (and i thought the southern curve wasnt used?)
-
-
- No, they come from Rotherham and use the GCR, at Tinsley Junction they stay on the main line towards Woodburn Jn. Captain scarlet 18:43, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

oh right i see. thanks. ill have to go down one day and see what happens
hi, i am planning on going down to the yard for a nosy. is Wood Lane bridge fenced off from the main road? thanks.
did i hear right, that someone had gone for a 'joyride' in a train at the depot on tuesday (30/5)?. apparently they went for a run along the tracks. Ledgero2 12:40, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
- I heard that too, didn't know it were in Tinsley, that will unfortunately get more Railtrack fence around the yard or precipitate its closure... Captain scarlet 13:27, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
- this is the article [[1]]it is a shame, as i was going to pop down this summer. Ledgero2 09:16, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bringing TMY back into use
"However there are plans to build a new rail-linked distribution centre on the disused parts of yard". Are there any references for this? I'm just interested really, as I always found the yard facinating! L.J.Skinnerwot|I did 22:57, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
- The Helios project is indeed in full swing, you'll see diggers and stuff actually happening over at the yard, 2002-2005 railway magazines have the plans in their columns. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 08:02, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
