[edit] Antibacterial use

My citation for the antibacterial use is the patient information leaflet from a UK pack of Pfizer Fasigyn. The section entitled 'What is your medicine for?' says:

  • Fasigyn is used to fight a variety of bacterial infections.
  • It is used, in combination with other drugs, to treat the infection associated with stomach ulcers.
  • It is used before certain surgical operations to prevent bacterial infections developing.
  • It is used to treat protozoal infections.

There is then a paragraph about the details of the use against protozoa, but nothing more about bacteria.

[edit] Context?

Some of this article seems to be copied verbatim from http://www.aidsinfonyc.org/pwahg/info/tini.html, particularly the side effects section. I am removing the line stating, "But these studies weren't performed in people with AIDS.", as it makes no sense out of the context of an AIDS-treatment website.

[edit] Side Effects

Having actually had to take Tinidazole many times in China for nasty parasitic infections, I would like to state that "bitter taste" as a side effect is an understatement. This medication is quite effective, but is the nastiest tasting medicine I've ever encountered. In fact, the bad taste stays with you and you may spend your entire medication regiment tasting it constantly... which can cause quite a loss of appetite. (However, it's better than not taking it...) I have just had my second 2g dose to treat parasites - the first was 5 days ago. I have had a bad time on tinidazole, obviously one case does not constitute a controlled study, but my experiences might be helpful to someone. my Dr recommended that I take the medicines at night. I have experienced very severe headaches for the whole of the next day. Additionally, I have been extremely fatigued on the morning after taking the medication, having extreme difficulty waking and then being lethargic when I finally woke. I have experienced the metalic taste, again lasting at least a day on both occasions. However, the most distressing thing was that on both occasions, I had very disturbing nightmares which continuusly broke my sleep each night that I took my medication. Correlation does not confer causation, but if anyone else takes this medication they might be interesed to share my experience. Despite all of these possible side effects, I am glad I took the medicine rather than suffer with parasites. --SunOnTheSoles (talk) 18:45, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
