[edit] The noob

Thank you all for your assistance in getting me up to speed on how to champion a new page, contest things, and help me get the article for [the noob] to be as acceptable as possible before it's final review on Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/The_noob

As of this writing, the final vote was "no consensus", which means that the article stays on wikipedia for the time being. Yea!

Special thanks to:

  • Brad Beattie (talk) - for being patient with me my first time in championing an article.
  • Proto::type - For helping me figure out the upload licensing quagmire
  • Krator - for excellent suggestions, and good content additions

[edit] re: Talk:OotS

It's not proper etiquette to delete other people's comments unless they vandalize the talk page or make comments with no informational content ("So-and-so rocks and is omgcool and I totally love him" or whatever). After all, I don't think you would like it if someone was censoring your comments either. As for the "other edits" that I threw away, I'm not sure what changes you're referring to. All I did was restore the discussions while keeping your rating tag. --Pentasyllabic 22:06, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia:How to archive a talk page, hope this helps. I've never done it before though, but generally talk pages are archived when they become "too long" or something like that. --Pentasyllabic 17:51, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Order of the Stick

I have further explained my rational for the Original research tag on this article, but I have not replaced it at this time. i kan reed 04:30, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: The noob AfD

The level of devotion you have shown toward this page and the improvement of Wikipedia is admirable. If the editors here had no passion, we would have no free encyclopedia. I didn't want you to get the impression that I was making this a personal issue against you or webcomics in general - I just happen to believe in principles like verifiability, reliable sources, and encyclopedic standards, and I don't want to see the ease of publishing afforded by the Internet result in an erosion in scholarly and professional analysis, and common-sense standards.

I don't know what the accusation of a hidden agenda is about, but I would like to lay that to rest. Like I said, I don't have any connection to the "webcomic scene", or any vendetta against it. Perhaps that the material proposed for deletion should be transwikied to a specialized fan site on a Wikia-like provider? NetOracle 03:49, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Webcomic notability guidelines

Hi Tim,

I've noticed you've been involved with (quite) a number of webcomic AfD's.
To put a hold on this rush, or at least guide it better, I have started a project-openly, I want everyone's input to form a good article- on Webcomic notability guidelines.
I would like to invite you to join the project so that we can make something good out of it.

[edit] The Noob Comic - Luckyherb

Thank you for your input to the noob DRV. If you want to make edits to improve the article during the DRV, the last content has been replicated in my userspace at User:Timmccloud/The_noob. Any help would be surely welcomed! Timmccloud 00:53, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi there, I have been looking at the article, and I think that alot of it could be removed. I am going to go ahead and do some work on it, a bit of chainsaw love so to speak. If you dont agree with some of the changes I make feel free to revert them, and we can work on bringing the article up to scratch should the DRV succeed.

Cheers. Luckyherb 12:07, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi,

I just gave the article a pretty major trim, removing most of the content that was a little unnessecary for an encyclopedia article. I think that maybe the character list should be cut down to just the main few as well. Oforf, the Pkers etc. Som on that list appear in very few comics. Ill do some more later. Feedback would be appreciated. Luckyherb 12:21, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

  • Wow. You did a great job on the edit! My only real concern is for the reviews section - granted that needs cleaning up, but most of those were added because of notability concerns. One of the methods of establishing notability is that it is reviewed in places other than it's own website. Maybe we could put the section back in a much more simplified form to establish this notability? - Something like:
==Reviews==
What do you think? Timmccloud 23:57, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, that seems like the best way to include them in the article. I noticed that you left out 3 of the reviews you put on my talk page. Ill leave that for you to sort out. I think i might take out a couple of the characters that are less notable too. Cheers Luckyherb 01:34, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi Tim, Looking at the page, I am starting to think that maybe the Running gags section could be removed completly. It is not particularly encyclopedic, and a few of the statments lack citations. I have left it there for now, but if you agree with me then feel free to remove it. Hopefully by removing all the so called 'cruft' the anti-webcomic crowd might become a bit more accomodating to this article.

Also, the author Gianna Masetti is very active on The Noob website, so if we can think of any questions or would like any info I am sure she would be happy to help us out. Luckyherb 01:44, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] NetOracle and The Noob

Thank you for alerting me to the discussion regarding NHN. I do not feel he acted in bad faith, but was unable to post any statement at all to his RfC due to the lateness of my arrival on the scene. It's hard on top, and he came to a difficult decision. That I, and most others, disagree with it does not make it wrong, but his unilateralism does give the air of pretension. At any rate...

I have posted a Request for Assistance on NetOracle's Talk page; as you seem to have an excellent grasp of Wikipedia policies and methods, I wanted to alert you to it. If you need more information or any form of help, you know where to find me.

Thanks! Jouster 02:57, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

  • Thank you for the fantastic information, I've moved it to Talk:The_noob. Timmccloud 02:32, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Re. the removal of the link- if sites are considered non-notable for our purposes, we shouldn't link to them from the deletedpage notice. If it is overturned, and considered notable, then it will be returned. Until then, the link is unnecessary. Ral315 » 00:59, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Cheers for the link RE: TheNoob -- I don't quite understand the issues with so called "canvassing" -- I feel strongly about the issue but would not have known had you not mentioned it (I joyously got the message even with the delete ;)) on my talk page.
