[edit] Welcome to Wikipedia

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers such as yourself:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! --Image:Ottawa flag.png Spinboy 04:46, 2 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome!

Hello! I saw your name at WP:MELB. It looks like you're doing some great edits, and nice to see use of the edit summary. :) Keep it up! Here are some useful links to keep on hand:

  • WP:MOS Manual of style
  • WP:SR Simplified ruleset, including
  • WP:NPOV, WP:V, WP:NOR Neutral POV, Verifiability and No original research
  • Don't forget to check out WP:AWNB the Australian Wikipedians' notice board

Also I noticed you uploaded Image:FSK LS CMYK.gif. I'm not sure if you have used the right copyright notice there. If you hold the copyright, you need to say so. If you don't, you need to make it clear how you know that they have allowed anyone to use it. (eg copy & paste contents of an email there, or put the URL where you got it from and copy the bit that say that.) otherwise, you can use a different template like {{Logo}}. Have another read over WP:IUP Image use policy. It's pretty confusing, I still read it a few times a week I think!

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to drop me a line on my Talk page. cheers, pfctdayelise 08:46, 14 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Fawkner-Park.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Fawkner-Park.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. -- Carnildo 04:41, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:C31adelaide.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:C31adelaide.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Aksibot 14:03, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Non-free use disputed for Image:Tvslogo.png

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Tvslogo.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:59, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Seven News fillins

Have your fillins your way. Even leave Rebecca Maddern out of the national bulletins. She does fill in heaps, but as you say, we'll leave the fillins out of the main page. We can leave her fillin notes on her own page. It's only if Ann or Samantha are away or on holidays she'll fill in.

User:Alltrainzfan

By the way, that's a better pic of Rebecca presenting the 4:30 news. Good upload. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alltrainzfan (talkcontribs) 06:02, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Contact

I have found your Gmail address and I have added it to Windows Live Messenger. I am not sure if you currently have the program installed, however it seems to be connecting. I hope to hear your reply, as it would be useful to be able to talk to you on MSN. Stickeylabel 07:33, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

I've got MSN although I can't say I use it on a regular basis (or indeed at all..). I usually just use email, or if it's Wikipedia related leave it on the talk/user page. timgraham 07:38, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

Lol, thanks for the barnstar :P. By the way, good work with the programming section at Southern Cross Ten, the article is looking good. I will attempt to make some pre-network logos for the various SC10 stations soon. Stickeylabel 12:08, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] GWN

A GWN rep is going to the talk page there now. Auroranorth 09:47, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] ABC Kids Channel

Please discuss before continuing, as there is not enough information to warrant an article. As well as this, the channel has only been proposed and has not yet been officially confirmed, and has no official launch date. Ten HD actually is confirmed and has a launch period, therefore it warrants an article. Stickeylabel 11:05, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

TVNZ News 24 had an equally slippery launch date when the article for that was created, so I don't see how it's any different. There's plenty of information - an article in the Age this morning, as well as the Murdoch rags I believe, plus a press release. timgraham 11:13, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
Firstly, you can't use a past violation as a precedent. Secondly, the channel is only proposed, not confirmed. There is a big difference between the two. Confirmed means that the channel will launch 100%, and work is currently under-way for test-transmissions. Proposed means that the channel is planned for consideration, however the channel launch is not 100% confirmed (for example ABC3 is subject to a federal election, of which may alter the outcome of the channel's life). Wikipedia is not a crystal ball and a channel subject to future variables does not warrant an article. Please be patient, and await for future concrete confirmations. Stickeylabel 11:20, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
If it has bipartisan support then it's as close as is practicable to being confirmed. Either way, it shouldn't go in the ABC Kids Channel article since it has nothing to do with it (nobody's proposed to resurrect it). As long as it's tagged and referenced appropriately (the latter is definitely the case, I saw to it myself) it's not causing any harm. timgraham 11:24, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
Please do not remove a tag for speedy deletion. Wikipedia is not a crystal ball and a channel subject to future variables does not warrant an article. Again, just be patient for a few days/weeks and wait for some official concrete announcements. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a news source. Stickeylabel 11:27, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I read it the first time. Having a quick browse through that speedy deletion page it does have context, it is verifiable, and it is notable (in the history of the ABC whether or not it goes ahead). It could also play a part on the upcoming election (but that's irrelevant). timgraham 11:34, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
The idea of a kids channel is definately on the agenda, but the name ABC3, and most of the information that has been used in these news reports is simply the Liberal's proposal of the channel. So what you're creating is an article that is purely sourced from a political vote grabbing 'statement'. The information about ABC's official proposal of the channel, and both the government and oppositions approval of it can be used, but under the flag of the ABC Kids article, as this is the most appropriate place due to the ABC's history with childrens channels. --Smacca 11:43, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
I would argue it's a somwhat different beast since it's actually receiving funding (rather than running on the smell of an oily rag). The main substance of what I was attempting to argue was that it's not the ABC Kids' Channel, so it shouldn't go there - if a standalone article doesn't belong, then maybe a section in the federal election article or the ABC television one ('proposed channels or something' - there was also a set of pay-tv channels in the early 90s that never went ahead which would certainly be relevant there) might be a wise idea. timgraham 11:59, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
I agree with your point about ABC3 being proposed as a new channel and being seperate entity from the ABC Kids Channel from 2001. Your proposal to have the ABC3 section moved to ABC Television is a good idea :), and I have moved the ABC3 section from ABC Kids Channel to ABC Television (Australia)#Future channels, and of which ABC3 now redirects to, in order to allow users to easily find the section. Stickeylabel 23:02, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
Souns good to me. timgraham 06:01, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Samantha Armytage on 4.30 news

Hi Tim, that's another great find by you. Can you find an image with Chris Bath or some other presenter other than Sam presenting the Late News update, with the TV screen beside her reading "Seven Late News"?

Thanks, Alltrainzfan.Alltrainzfan 08:18, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

You're welcome..it's fairly easy to do when you've got a DVD recorder.
It's technically the 4.30 News, but since the national bulletins all use the same backdrop it doesn't matter (you'll notice none of the other screenshots have the plasma in the background saying what bulletin it is - I just went for consistency). There was one already there on the Chris Bath page that I updated rather than adding a fifth picture of her.
See Image:Chris Bath, Morning News.jpg timgraham 08:23, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

That's good thinking there Tim, except there's one flaw with that photo - remember that the Late News or Late News updates don't have the news ticker or whatever you call them at the bottom of the screen. Probably another pic without it unless it's not forth being a fanatic about it? Alltrainzfan 08:53, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

That's the only one I have since I live in Melbourne and don't watch Seven all that often. timgraham 09:05, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Don't worry, I'll see what else I can do afterwards. Alltrainzfan 10:26, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Can you get back the original "Chris Bath presenting Seven Morning News"? Your new photo isn't the Morning News. I quite liked the previous one. Alltrainzfan 11:22, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

It might be possible but I don't know how..it's probably fine to leave it since at last glance there were at least two more pictures of Chris Bath on her page! timgraham 12:41, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Todaytonight.JPG

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Todaytonight.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.
