From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hi Tim Shell,

i was lead to your photo website from las vegas articles: http://www.timshell.com/pics.html

I have browsed some of your las vegas photos and others. I enjoyed them greatly!

I was wondering if i can use some of your photos on my own website. If you require credit, i'd be glad to credit it, and link back to your website if you like. Please let me know know. Thanks! Xah Lee P0lyglut 07:15, 2004 Jun 30 (UTC)

 • Yes, that would be fine, if you include the link back to my site. - Tim

Hi. I just deleted Jin-Qua which you yourself marked as being deleted. However you better use delete instead of vfd for something which should be deleted without the need for discussion - if it is not a clear case you better do the complete vfd process. And maybe you had better moved the first version of your article to the new location, and then exchange the automatically created redirect with the delete note - that way it would be much less confusing to have a valid article in the history upon deletion. andy 09:50, 30 Jul 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Mojave Desert

Hi Tim. Thanks for your recent addition to the Mojave Desert article with your photo. Please see my comments about it at Talk:Mojave Desert. Thanks! --avnative 13:49, Aug 6, 2004 (UTC) Oh no! Am I in the right place? Went for a search for someone to help me out here, hit the top brass, oh well, can someone ehlp me with a pciture load and what is happening with my page? Did I type this in the wrong place?

[edit] Noble House

Great job on the Noble House characters. You might want to reconsider having links for all the minor and mentioned characters on the Noble House page, except maybe for the founding Struans. I think it would be great to have a Struan's family tree compiled from info in all three Struan's books at some point, but that would really be a lot of work. Thumbs up. --Aramgutang 01:39, 8 Aug 2004 (UTC)

I've just created an Asian Saga category, and felt you deserved to be notified, since most of the articles I moved into it were by you. :) --Paul A 05:26, 16 Nov 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

Hello, I am cleaning some of the image copyright tags and Image:TimShell-LaJolla20031207.jpg doesn't have a license tag, I realize that's a personal picture, so I didn't want to assume gfdl. Thanks :D - cohesion 09:30, Mar 28, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Adminship of Timshell and Tim Shell

Hi Tim. User:Timshell and User:Tim Shell are both admins. I suggest that User:Timshell should be de-sysopped. Also, perhaps you'd like to have adminship transferred from User:Tim Shell to you? What is your opinion of this? dbenbenn | talk 5 July 2005 16:10 (UTC)

Didn't realize there was a User:Tim Shell account - so if you de-sysop or de-anything that account (the one with the space), that would be fine. TimShell 5 July 2005 16:57 (UTC)

I've written a tool to figure out which admins are active. This tool starts by querying the sysop user list (like this), which finds user:Timshell, not user:TimShell. You've apparently never made any edits as user:Timshell, so I'm a little confused. Is the sysop'd account the wrong one? I guess I don't really care very much, but it seems this is something you might want to get fixed. -- Rick Block (talk) 23:54, July 24, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] User categorization

Greetings! Your user page hasn't been vandalized :-) --it was updated to use the new User Categorization scheme. Although I know that some people don't like to be "categorized" I have categorized your User Page as a Wikipedian in Nevada (Category:Wikipedians in Nevada) since your name was listed on the Wikipedia:Wikipedians/Nevada page and I didn't want to lose sight of that. The Wikipedia:Wikipedians/Nevada page is scheduled for deletion. Thanks! Roby Wayne Talk • Hist 03:43, 8 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:NewYork-NewYork19.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:NewYork-NewYork19.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use GFDL-self to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. SteinbDJ 18:53, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Things in Atlas Shrugged

Hi Tim,

The article you started, Things in Atlas Shrugged, is currently up for deletion. There are quite a few editors who feel that it deserves a rewrite, but are not knowledgable on the topic. Would you care to join the discussion, or perhaps help on a rewrite?

[edit] what happened to your wiki?

you seem to have had one. I understand the urge to scrap it after you start one when perhaps it doesn't turn out as grand as you'd sometimes envisioned in those moments of blinding inspiration. Ka-zizzl 05:15, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Splitting the English Wikipedia into American and British English Wikipedias

I think this is a stupid silly idea (i'm glad you oppose). A much better solution would be to have an option in the preferences for each user to display the page with their own locality of english. I don't know how much this would sap power from the servers, but it would put a stop to the arguments. Also, you are on the board of trustees, so why does your talk page get so few posts? [edit] Meetups, events, US chapters

Hiya Tim,

There's currently some renewed discussion about whether and how to set up [a] US wikimedia chapter[s]. Among other things this could help better organize meetups, gatherings at large events and cons, and local outreach. You were interested in this before; there is a quiet mailing-list and a meta-page on the topic... both of which could use input and ideas. +sj + 17:36, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Talk:Boston Tea Party

Howdy, I noticed that you and I seem to post in one or two articles dealing with progressive issues in political science/sociology. There's currently a debate beginning in Boston Tea Party as to whether the article should include the category [1]. It meets definitions set in the articles Terrorism and Definition of terrorism, however, there are several self-proclaimed patriots who watch BTP who refuse to recognise the fact. The simple criteria for terrorism generally seem to be intimidation or destruction of property in order to change public policy or public opinion while a state of war has not yet been declared. Some users would rather use recent acts of terrorism as a yardstick, rather than using a firm definition, and hence lose their ability to discuss matters calmly. Would you be able to pop in to the Talk page and join in the discussion? Thanks much, samwaltz 05:23, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:LaJolla-Seals.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:LaJolla-Seals.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. [edit] Flag change

Hi,

I took the liberty of changing the Flag of Georgia (i.e, the Republic of Georgia) to the Flag of the State of Georgia on your user page. I think that's what you wanted. --SteveMcCluskey 17:04, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use image use

Greetings! On October 2, I removed two fair use image violations from your userpage. See [2]. On October 18, you reverted those removals. See [3]. Please be aware that per Wikipedia:Fair use criteria item #9, the use of fair use tagged images outside of the main article namespace is not permitted. I've removed three fair use images from your userpage today [4]. Please do not re-add these images. If you have any questions about this, I'd be happy to answer. Also, your page says "I currently serve on the board of the". You're a former member, not a current one :) All the best, --Durin 15:42, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image source problem with Image:Cheyenne.jpg

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Cheyenne.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 01:12, 6 May 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Siebrand (talk) 01:12, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
