Timo Kouwenhoven 1972 was born in Helmond, The Netherlands. After being trained as a computer technician and electrotechnical engineer, he received a BSc (ingenieur) in informatics in 1995, specialising in factory automation. In 1996 he graduated from Middlesex University with an MSc in Co-operative Systems (CSCW).

Together with Eelco Kruizinga he worked in the groupware practice of CIBIT, a leading consulting firm on knowledge, innovation and information management, business intelligence, information retrieval and software architecture. In 1998 he joined the knowledge management practice of Rob van der Spek at CIBIT. Nowadays he is a senior member of the information management practice, still at CIBIT.

Timo is (co-)author of various articles dealing with a variety of topics, ranging from knowledge management to multimedia retrieval.

Next to consulting he supervised several MSc students while writing their final theses, the last student being Katharina Schwarz who wrote a thesis on Domain model enhanced search - A comparison of taxonomy, thesaurus and ontology. Master Thesis Content and Knowledge Engineering, University of Utrecht. 2005. In 2004 Placidus Beck graduated on a thesis discussing the combination of the Resource Description Framework , search engines and web services. A set of topics that is emerging into what is known as the semantic grid, semantic technology and composite applications.

Supporting individual knowledge workers and linking these to colleagues is a central objective in his work, building on the deployment of modern information and communication technologies. He publishes frequently and is an invited speaker for conferences and seminars relating to information management.

He is a member of Global Grid Forum and supports userXperience Network and the Information Architecture Institute.
