Tim Cahill (b. 1959) is the current Massachusetts Treasurer and Receiver-General. He was elected to the position in 2003. Prior to his election to State Treasurer, he served as a City Councilor in Quincy from 1987 until 1996 when he was elected to Norfolk County Treasurer. He served as county Treasurer until his election as State Treasurer. Tim was born and raised in Quincy, Massachusetts and still resides there to this day with his wife Tina and his four daughters. His grandmother, Florence Lynch, is a descendent of one of Massachusetts' Boston Brahmin families, the Spauldings, who were instrumental in the founding of both Braintree and Chelmsford. Despite his historic roots, he grew up in a working class, blue-collar, family. Tim Cahill attended Boston University and graduated in 1981 receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science. His accomplishments as a State Treasurer include: Increasing the State Pention Fund by over 50% in just three years, reformed the State's School Building Assistance Program, generated $2 billion through Lottery aid to cities and towns. He is widely regarded as an effective Treasurer and the Boston Herald wrote that, "Cahill has shown Fellow Democrats how to encourage job growth without government handouts." While the Lowell Sun has written, "Cahill has brought confidence and credibility to the treasurer's office through independent thinking and sound fiscal decisions."
