From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A timing point is a term used in timetable planning in the transport industry. It refers to a location, usually a bus stop, that a vehicle reaches at an agreed time. It is used as a point of reference on routes to assist passengers plan journeys and transport companies measure service performance (punctuality) and fare planning.

Timing points are usually identified by a textual descriptor, NaPTAN code and geo-reference such as lat/long or easting and northing.

With increases in GPS technology, vehicle arrival times at timing points can be recorded automatically through on-vehicle equipment (often a ticket machine).
