Timergara

Timergara is located in Dir, NWFP, Pakistan. Timergara is the district headquarters of Dir, lies at only 823 m (2,700 ft), twice the altitude of Peshawar but much lower than the traditional and eponymous capital of Dir at the foot of the Lowarai Pass.
Most of the part of the main city lies on the bank of the river panjkora, this river also separate the balambat from timergara main city.
The city contains one high school for girls and several girls primary schools, and also one high school and college for boys. But there are a lot of private schools. In the previous decades the area was quite backward regarding education but now 1990s and unward a huge trend for education is found in the people, because they realized that education is the only way to improve standard of life.
The area has weak agriculture infrastructure with no industry. The economy is completely based on the money sent by the area people abroad specially in Gulf countries.
In the main city one can find a lot of shops and restaurants but quite few hotels.
Timergara is the main point from where one can go straight to Dir and then Chitral or turn left and go to Bajaur. The way from Timergara to Dir is fantastic, the road going exactly on the bank of river panjkora. The villages in the middle are Danwa, Rabat, Khal, Wari and finally Dir. It takes near about 1 and half hour by car finally to reach Dir.
This area was once home to Alexander the Great for quite short time. He toke hold of the city "massaga" currently Talash after defeating the hindu raja of that area. The remains of that city can still be found at the mountains sourounding Talash.
