The Timeline of the Battle of France covers the period of time during World War II from the first military actions on the Franco-German frontier to the fall of France in 1940.

September 7, 1939
- French forces begin patrols into Germany near Saarbrucken. These patrols continue through September 17, 1939. A larger offensive is cancelled on account of the Polish collapse.
September 27, 1939
- German Führer Adolf Hitler notifies the service chiefs that Germany will be attacking the western Allies as soon as possible. The Army opposes the plan vehemently.
