- Rangers win the 2007–08 Scottish League Cup by beating Dundee United 3–2 in a penalty shootout after a 2–2 draw in the final at Hampden Park.
- East Fife confirm their promotion to the Second Division as Third Division champions with a 3–0 victory over East Stirlingshire, becoming the first team in Britain to win a league trophy in the 2007–08 season.[1]
- George Burley is appointed as Scotland manager.[2]
- SPL team Gretna go into administration [3] and receive a 10 point penalty as a result.
- Gretna confirm their relegation from the SPL on Saturday 29th March, after a 2–0 defeat to St. Mirren.[4]
- An all-time low SPL attendance record was set in a Gretna match against Inverness CT with a crowd of 431 on 5th of April 2008.[5]
- May 14: Rangers lose 2–0 to Zenit St. Petersburg in the UEFA Cup Final.[6]

- Aberdeen been Copenhagen 4–0 at Pittodrie to qualify from the Group Stage of the UEFA Cup[7]
- Motherwell captain Phil O'Donnell, 35, collapsed on the pitch during a Scottish league match against Dundee United, and died shortly afterwards.[8]
- Celtic win the SPL title for the 5th time and the Scottish Cup for the 34th time
- Celtic beat Dunfermline Athletic to win the Scottish Cup for the 34th time

- Hearts win the Scottish Cup for the 7th time beating Gretna 4–2 after extra time

- Livingston win the League Cup for the first time. after a 2–0 win over Hibernian in the final.

- Celtic lose 3–2 to FC Porto after extra time in the UEFA Cup final.

- Raith Rovers defeat Celtic 6–5 on penalties after a 2–2 draw in the League Cup final. It is Raith Rovers' first League Cup success.

- Dundee United lose 2–1 on aggregate to IFK Göteborg in the final of the UEFA Cup.

- Aberdeen beat Real Madrid 2–1 after extra time to win the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. Aberdeen also win the UEFA Super Cup after a 2–0 aggregate win over Hamburger SV.
- Dundee United win the league title for the first time.

- Dundee United win the 1979–80 League Cup to lift the trophy for the first time. They defeated Aberdeen 3–0 in the replayed final.

- Scotland are eliminated from the 1974 World Cup on goal difference, despite not having lost a match.

- A 2–1 win over Czechoslovakia at Hampden Park guarantees Scotland a place at the 1974 World Cup after finishing 1st in their qualifying group.

- Rangers beat Dynamo Moscow 3–2 to win the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. Rangers are beaten 6–3 on aggregate by European Cup winners Ajax in the UEFA Super Cup.
- Hibernian are winners of the 1972–73 League Cup after a 2–1 win over Celtic in the final to win the trophy for the first time.

- 66 people die and over 200 are injured after a crush during a match between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox Park, after a stairway gave way.
- Partick Thistle are winners of the League Cup for the first time after defeating Celtic 4–1 in the final.

- Celtic lose 2–1 to Feyenoord in the final of the European Cup.

- Celtic beat Inter Milan 2–1 in the final of the European Cup - becoming the first British club to win a European trophy. Celtic also win the domestic treble for the first time.
- Rangers lose 1–0 after extra time against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup final.
- Third Lanark go out of business after becoming bankrupt.

- Celtic win the 1956–57 League Cup after a 3–0 win over Partick Thistle in the replayed final. It is Celtic's first League Cup trophy.

- Aberdeen win the 1955–56 League Cup after defeating St. Mirren 2–1 in the final to win the trophy for the first time.

- After qualifying for the World Cup for the first time, Scotland are knocked-out after a 1–0 defeat to Austria and a 7–0 defeat to Uruguay. Andy Beattie, appointed manager for the World Cup campaign, is Scotland's first manager.
- Hearts beat Motherwell 4–2 in the final of the League Cup to win the tournament for the first time.

- Rangers defeat Aberdeen 4–0 at Hampden Park to win the 1946–47 inaugural League Cup. Rangers also win both the league title and the Scottish Cup - thereby becoming the first Scottish club to win domestic treble.
- East Fife are the second winners of the League Cup after defeating Falkirk 4–1 in the replayed final of the 1947–48 competition.

- Celtic goalkeeper John Thomson dies after suffering a fractured skull after an accidental on-pitch collision with Rangers striker Sam English during league match at Ibrox Park.

- Scotland plays against opposition outside of England, Wales and Ireland for the first time, defeating Norway 7–3 in Bergen.

- Vale of Leven win the Scottish Cup for the first time after beating Rangers 3–2 in a second replay - thereby becoming the first team other than Queen's Park to win the trophy.

- Queen's Park defeat Clydesdale 2–0 to win the inaugural Scottish Cup.

- Queen's Park became the first ever Scottish football team to participate in official competion when they played in the 1871–72 FA Cup semi-final against Wanderers, the match ended goalless. Queen's, however, could not afford to extend their stay long enough for the tie to be replayed and were forced to withdraw.
- Scotland and England draw 0–0 in the first ever international football match, played at the West of Scotland Cricket Club.

- First unofficial international match, between England and Scotland, finishes in a 1–0 win for England at the Kennington Oval in London.

- Scotland's oldest club in continuous existence and longest established club Queen's Park F.C. are established.

- World's first footbal club is established in Scotland. Foot Ball Club of Edinburgh become the first ever registered football club in the world.
