Timbuk2 is a San Francisco-based company, started in 1989[1], that specializes in making ready-made and custom-made messenger bags. The messenger bags are constructed from waterproof ballistic nylon or cordura. It is now owned by the Irvine, California private equity firm VMG Equity Partners.[2]

Timbuk2 was founded by former bike messenger Rob Honeycutt[3]. The company was originally named Scumbags, but was changed to Timbuk2 in 1990. The name Timbuk2 was inspired in part by the American rock band Timbuk3.[4]
