[edit] Early Life
Born and raised in southern California, music has been a presence in Myers life since an early age.[3] Myers was compelled by piano at five and mastered classical piano by thirteen, at which point, he was introduced to guitar and bass. Myers soon started writing songs at the age of fourteen.[4]
Myers is left-handed and plays guitar and bass in an unconventional manner. Myers turns a guitar or bass upside down and plays with the strings strung right-handed.[5]
His unconventional "upside down" style is reminiscent of fellow left-handers Jimi Hendrix and Paul McCartney. [6]
[edit] Career
[edit] Early Musical Career
In 2002, Myers moved to Los Angeles, CA and joined the Interscope/Geffen Records band Limousine. The band was released from their contract within months of beginning work on their debut record.[1]
[edit] OneRepublic
In 2003, Myers met founders of OneRepublic Ryan Tedder and Tedder's high school classmate Zach Filkins, as they were looking to fill the band positions in Los Angeles. Myers played bass in the band from 2003-2007. After signing a deal with Columbia Records, they recorded a number of songs, only to be dropped by the record label shortly after turning in their record.
Myers left the band in order to pursue a solo career. Shortly after leaving he was replaced by cellist/ bassist Brent Kutzle. The band became the number one un-signed band on MySpace and soon got signed to Interscope Records under the Mosley Music Group headed by Timbaland, of whom Tedder personally knows and has worked with since 2001. The band recorded a full album, 'Dreaming Out Loud' and was released on November 20 in the United States.
The band has since smashed records with their mega-hit 'Apologize', becoming the biggest radio airplay hit in the history of North American Top 40 radio, according to Billboard, and was played about 10,000 times in a span of a week. [7]
[edit] Solo Career
On January 11, 2007, Myers released a solo EP titled "Revolution EP." The 6 song "Revolution EP" was full of political anti-war songs. The lyrics call for the need to make positive changes in the turbulent times in which we live.[8] The single "World War" reached #3 on the Triple A radio charts.[9] "A Revolution Song" featured vocals from Colbie Caillat.
On May 3, 2007 Myers song "Momma's Boy" was featured in the 2 hour event episode of the hit ABC television show Grey's Anatomy.[10] "Momma's Boy" was also placed on the Grey's Anatomy Season Three soundtrack which had commercial success.[11]
Myers song "A Place We Used to Know" was played on Lifetime's top rated show Army Wives.[12] "A Place We Used to Know" was also placed in ABC's Private Practice.[13] Myers' music was also placed in the TV show One Tree Hill .[14]
On January 7, 2008 Myers released a five song EP titled "The Good Life EP." The EP was much lighter and brighter than the Revolution EP.[15] The song "Magic" on The Good Life EP was featured in the Walden Media/Sony Pictures Entertainment film The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep along with Sinéad O'Connor.[16] The single "A Beautiful World" was played on various radio stations across the United States.[17]
In early 2008, Myers song "A Beautiful World" was featured in a Target commercial and Canon Commercial giving Myers a lot of great publicity.[18][19] Good Morning America also played "A Beautiful World" in a segment called "Your 3 Words."[20] In May, 2008, Myers song "The Good Life" was featured in the Saturn Aura commercial
