Tim Gane

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tim Gane (born July 12, 1964, Barking, Essex, England) is the leader of the rock band Stereolab.[1]

Gane's musical influences are wide-ranging, and generally lie outside the rock mainstream: the krautrock of Neu! and Faust; the sunshine pop of Brian Wilson, Wendy & Bonnie and The Zombies; Brazilian bossa nova composer Antonio Carlos Jobim; soundtrack composers Ennio Morricone and Roy Budd; and classical composers such as Gustav Holst and Claude Debussy.[citation needed] He is also one of very few to own a first pressing copy of experimental/'industrial' pioneers Nurse With Wound's Chance Meeting on a Dissecting Table of a Sewing Machine and an Umbrella.[citation needed]

He started his musical career as a purveyor of harsh noise under the alias Unkommuniti and was a key member of McCarthy from 1985-1990.
