It is known that the police station of Tighina has been under seige from around the beginning of 1992 up to the outbreak of civil war on June 19, 1992. It is also known that on June 11, 1992 the first two victims simultaneously fell to the Transnistrain kidnappers. Iurie Perju, a a Tighina police investigator, Major in rank well-known in the city of Tighina, and participant of previous negotiations with the Transnistrian forces has been kidnapped in his private car while he was driving to have lunch with his colleague, Mr Railean. Mr. Perju, in the driver's seat noticed to Mr Railean that their car was followed. Subsequently three individuals in Transnistrian militia uniform have stopped Mr Perju's car pointing three Kalashnikov's at him. His last words where reportedly - we can talk about this, let's sit down and talk things out. Perju's police gun, the only fireweapon at his disposal has been laying safely in his police office safe, as Perju was a strong pacifist and would not wear his gun as a simbol of his openness for fair talks. Railean managed to escape the scene of kidnapping by jumping over the fense into a private garden and further one through other fences and back yards. He survived to tell the story. Perju's body was found on the left bank of the river Dniester in the passenger seat of his private car with signes of strangulation and a gunshot through his right cheek that blew his brains out literally into the car.

Nine days later, on 19 June 1992 the region was embroiled into a civil war that lasted for two months and left thousands dead and more misplaced.
