[edit] Years in Australia
Up to around 1930 there aren't many events per year. Wouldn't it make sense to revert the current convention so that years will link to the worldwide pages, such as 1823, while headlines would link to Australia specific pages, such as 1800-99 in Australia or 1850-9 in Australia, or whatever an appropriate period may be? 1892: Gold is discovered at Coolgardie, Queensland. Is this saying gold was discovered in Coolgardie AND in Queensland or is it a mistake? Coolgardie is in WA, and gold was discovered there in 1892. -- —Moondyne 02:57, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Factual Error
The following factual error has been corrected
"1989 - A 5.6 magnitude earthquake strikes Newcastle on 28 December. This was Australia's most serious natural disaster to date"
The Newcastle earthquakes were not Australia's most serious natural disaster to date. For example previous disasters such as: The Broome cyclone 1935, Ash Wednesday fires 1983, Cyclone Tracy 1974, etc. all had a greater degree of severity.
presuming of course the "seriousness" of a natural disaster is measured by death toll and/or amount of destruction.

1992 - The Sydney Harbour Tunnel opens. This particular road has not been of historical significance to the nation and therefore should not be included in the timeline.

Is anybody able to state definitively whether Mendana (who is more famous for charting the Solomon Islands) mapped Cape York in 1597. I know he was in the region around this time but the only evidence I have is a chart reproduced on a Solomon Island stamp released in about 1980.

I have given it a mid importance given it is a supporting article for history of Australia, but I was tempted to give it a high! There does seem to be some gaps still, in early 18th century for example. Also wikipedia has a timeline diagram whereby some aspects could be well illulstrated, such as establishment of states and commonwealth. It would probably not take much more to get a B rating, if someone here can say that the subject is well covered! Graeme Bartlett 20:42, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Expert needed for aboriginal era
Tens of thousands of years and the best we can come up with is "aboriginal tribes thought to arrive in Australia"?!? This is a huge section that could definately be expanded, IMO
