[edit] sorry, please, my short english. bad english, but it´s all true:
March, 2001: an investigative jornalist, named Tim Lopes, is killed by a traficant(traffic) group in Complexo do Alemão, an enormous slump located in Brazilian State of Rio de Janeiro. Working to Rede Globo de Televisão, the Brazilian greatest media group, Lopes death brings panic, polemic and mobilizacion to Rio´s society and its police departments – result: few days after the crime, Elias Maluco, one of the biggest dealer of the State, and murderer of Lopes, was catched. In chains, without shirt and hurted, Maluco was exposed by the contradictory feelings of the carioca´s society, mixing fear, anger and a morbid curiosity. More: in aproximatly two years, the murderer was condemned to more than 30 years in jail – a record by the slow brasilian justice system. A good combinacion of people and media mobilization made the diference, and State security sistem played its role.
But in the same night another guy was murdered by the same group, and his body was burned besides Tim Lopes’. The victim was probably Marcelo Souza, a 25 years old nordestino. Married, evangelic, and well-known as a simple and prestative guy, Marcelo was accused by his own brother as guilty in a young girl´s rape, and was killed by Elias Maluco´s gang. His bones are sleeping in the Legal Medicine Institut of Rio de Janeiro´s Police. The murderers of Tim Lopes, were sent to jail, but not because of Marcelo´s death – to Justice, this is an incomplete case, among the one hundred thousand other incomplete cases in Rio´s Police Department.
