  • Fair use rationale: Low resolution image per the four fair use criteria in the US, and per WP:NFCC. Per WP:NFC, the object of interest is the cover itself, which is of direct relevance to the articles on intelligent design, creation-evolution controversy and directly related topics. No freely licensed equivalent is available. The image adds explanatory power to any and/or all articles concerning intelligent design, creation-evolution controversy, and directly related topics. The image does not threaten to replace the commercial value of the image to the copyright holder, but instead increases such value to the copyright holder. The use is minimal, and involves no internal content from the magazine itself, but rather illustrates the copyright holder's publicized presentation of the topic. Its presence significantly increases readers' understanding of the topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding. The image is for use only in article namespace.

Low resolution?

It is a low resolution image, and thus not suitable for production of counterfeit copies. The size of this image is significantly reduced from the original, so that there is no prospect of it being used to produce a passable copy of the original cover. The date is almost unreadable; if anything, a little bit larger would have been better. Any smaller would start to lose the text on "Does God have a place...".

Purpose of use

The image is intended for fair use in Intelligent design

  • The image shows an important public dimension of the controversy over intelligent design.
  • The image gives immediate identification for a reader of the section entitled "Controversy" in the article on intelligent design.
  • This image adds explanatory power through the intended first visual impact for the intended audience of the magazine.
  • The image of the magazine cover provides useful information for identifying and locating the magazine in a manner that prose cannot.

In all cases:

  • The image does not threaten to replace the commercial value of the image to the copyright holder, but instead increases such value to the copyright holder.
  • The use is minimal, and involves no internal content from the magazine, but rather illustrates the copyright holder's publicized presentation of the topic.
  • Its presence significantly increases readers' understanding of the topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding.

The image is for use only in article namespace.

Replaceable?

It is not replaceable with an uncopyrighted or freely copyrighted image of comparable educational value.

Other information
  • The image is not used in such a way that a reader would be confused into believing that the article is written or authorized by the owner of the logo.
  • This image does not limit the copyright holder's ability to profit from the original source, nor will it dilute the importance or recognition of the magazine in connection with its organization.
