[edit] Pictures

Thanks for uploading so many pictures, but based on the postings above, it looks like you're not fully aware of the restrictions. Ijust saw the Ansel Adams portrait you uploaded, which has a restiction against commercial use. All material on Wikipedia must be freely available for all users, including commercial ones. If you could be more discriminating in the future you'd save everyone the time of dealing with inelibile images. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 01:42, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

I certainly empathize with your frustration. Numerous editors have butted heads over this policy. Nonetheless, it is a foundational issue for Wikipedia and it's not likely to change. Old photographs (pre-1928), photos with generous licenses (sometimes found on Flicker), and photos we take ourselves appear to be the best sources. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 05:33, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi Tillman, regarding your uploads of images under a "non-commercial" license, WP:CSD#I3 doesn't prohibit them as long as they have a valid fair-use rationale and that they meet the 10 criteria in WP:NFCC. Non-commercial licensed images are only speedily deleted if they don't have a valid fair-use rationale. But since your uploads had a rationale, I've removed the speedy deletion tags. Spellcast (talk) 20:36, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks -- I thought they were the REGULAR CC 3.0 license, not the non-commercial. Cheers, Pete Tillman (talk) 01:46, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Samoan_American_drummer.jpg listed for deletion

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:Samoan_American_drummer.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Mangostar (talk) 20:30, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:DatsolaleeBaskets.jpg}

Thank you for uploading Image:DatsolaleeBaskets.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Tag removed -- bot error. See image talk page, Pete Tillman (talk) 16:23, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Theodore Roosevelt Lake edit

Thanks for your edit to the Roosevelt Lake article. I'm pretty sure "Lake Roosevelt" is an alternate (though less common) name for the lake, so I re-added it to the lede ("sometimes Lake Roosevelt" to emphasize that "Roosevelt Lake" is more common; I also left your other edits intact). I've explained further on the talk page. Just wanted to let you know! • WarpFlyght (talkcontribs) 23:22, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:MaryMurphy2.jpg

Image Copyright problem

Hi Tillman!
We thank you for uploading Image:MaryMurphy2.jpg, but there is a problem. Your image is currently missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. Unless you can help by adding a copyright tag, it may be deleted by an Administrator. If you know this information, then we urge you to add a copyright tag to the image description page. We apologize for this, but all images must confirm to policy on Wikipedia.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks so much for your cooperation.

[edit] Speedy deletion of Image:A. Kellerman 1920-2.jpg

A tag has been placed on Image:A. Kellerman 1920-2.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I8 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is available as a bit-for-bit identical copy on the Wikimedia Commons under the same name, or all references to the image on Wikipedia have been updated to point to the title used at Commons.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. LegoKontribsTalkM 04:40, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Santa Fe Southern Railway

Thanks for your edits to Santa Fe Southern Railway. I modeled the page after the Cumbres and Toltec page; is that also a short line railroad? --Una Smith (talk) 20:38, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Cheers. And well done yourself on finding that bigger version and getting it up there. It did amazingly well. --jjron (talk) 09:09, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Historic images

Thanks for uploading some interesting historic images! If you haven't already, I suggest you check out Wikimedia Commons. For free licensed images (such as old public domain/US government images, etc) you can upload them directly there. Why? They will then be availible not only here on the English language Wikipedia, but also for Wikipedias in other languages, other Wikimedia projects, etc-- and putting them into any article here on the English language Wikipedia is still just as easy; do exactly the same as if it was uploaded here. Commons also has categories and galleries, allowing useful images to be found in multiple ways. Check it out, and let me know if I can be of help. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 06:22, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
