Tiger Bay is the third studio album by British band Saint Etienne. It was released June 28, 1994 by Heavenly Records.
The album blends modern techno music with folk. Some of its songs, such as "Marble Lions" and "Former Lover" are folk songs performed on acoustic guitar and mandolins with orchestral backing. One, "Western Wind", is a traditional English folk song. Others fuse folk with techno, such as "Like a Motoway" which blends Kraftwerk with the melody from the nineteenth century folk song "Silver Dagger".
In an interview with Record Collecter, Bob Stanley stated that the title is a reference to the 1959 film Tiger Bay.[1] The original cover art features a painting of the band in a nineteenth century coastal fishing scene.

[edit] 1996 re-release
Tiger Bay was reissued in 1996 by Heavenly Records, in part because of Saint Etienne's absence from the music scene, but also because of their move to Creation Records. The reissue featured new artwork: the front cover shows a green-filtered image of a woman smiling against a backdrop of a city; the back shows a picture of the group. The album notes were also changed, including a short album description by Simon Price, and a series of photographs with a summery theme.
The album itself features a slightly shuffled track listing. Notably "Marble Lions" is moved to appear after "Pale Movie". The second occurrence of "Western Wind" is removed completely; instead "Tankerville" fades into "Boy Scouts of America". "Former Lover" is also edited, although less noticeably, with only the opening guitar chords being removed. The reissue also features four extra tracks - "I Buy American Records", "Grovely Road", "Hate your Drug" and the single edit of "He's on the Phone".
