[edit] Tigre/Tigray/Tigrinia
I'm afraid this article doesn't make sense when it states that the Tigre should not be confused with the Tigray/Tigrinia. Can this be clarified? They seem to all be the same people. Badagnani 18:08, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- The Tigre are Tigray-Tigrinya people that moved into the Northern lowlands in Eritrea early on and then later in the mid 19th c. converted to Islam while the Tigray-Tigrinya remained Christian. Also, their languages, while close, are distinct. — ዮም (Yom) | contribs • Talk • E 18:22, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
you can't be serious tegre are tigrayan that moved to the eritrean lowland, tegre are the decsendants of the beja tribe or the same how the tigrayan could be the ancestors check the history maybe kushtic ancestory will be a start.
Thanks very much for the info. Should one say "largely" converted to Islam? Because the sedentary group seems to be mixed in religion though "largely" Christian. Badagnani 18:45, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- Are you talking about the Tigray-Tigrinya having some (few, less than 5% in Ethiopia) Muslims? I'm not sure if we should say that because we don't know of how recent origin those converts are. How about "while .... remained almost completely Christian and sedentary?" — ዮም (Yom) | contribs • Talk • E 18:54, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
That seems sensible. There are usually people within any society who don't follow the mold. I was very surprised when I found out that there were very many Arabian Jews at the time of Muhammad! (Though I doubt there are any now.) I didn't realize that the Tigre live only in Eritrea and not also in Ethiopia. Badagnani 18:58, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
Should we remove "Ethiopia" from the infobox? BTW I've added a few things to the Ancient Egypt racial controversy article if you'd like to improve on any of it. The Noguera book is a pretty good one. Badagnani 19:00, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- Wow, this is weird. The diffs showed me reverting the IPs edits (which didn't happen until the 21st) on the 6th of July, as if they were in the same order, so I thought I accidentally reverted it. So when I reverted myself, it made no change to the text, but it was still preserved in the Edit history. Very weird indeed. — ዮም | (Yom) | Talk • contribs • Ethiopia 19:17, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Let's Get This In Other Languages
Anyone out there who can speak a language other than English, please help out here. An Amharic and an Arabic one would be nice, but anything is needed! Please help!
