[edit] Magnola Tree Discussion
This article has listed for over a year that the Magnolia Tree in Tifton was struck by lightning and burned down in October of 2006. Though it was burned down, it was still (partially) standing and no longer growing.
I personally visited the tree in early 2007 and found it was burned down and the fences remained locked at all times.
There was an additional note on the article that said it was "discovered" to have been burned down by two people in '06. However, I searched through the Tifton Gazette to find an article in March of 2006 claiming that the tree had somehow caught fire in August of 2004 (referenced in the article) and by March of 2006, caretakers were still trying to restore the tree to life. I called the Tifton Gazette and was informed that the they knew of no incident in 2006 involving the tree catching fire another time nor of any story of lightning being the original cause. I have thus updated the article with the information in the newspaper article accordingly. -JasonSpradlin82 (talk) 01:21, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
