Tierra caliente (Spanish for hot land) is a term used in Latin America to refer to those places within that realm which have a distinctly tropical climate. The Tierra caliente forms at Sea Level to about 3000 ft.
For those originating from it, Tierra caliente is not just a place you can find on a map, it is a unique form of culture. Also known as "the land of the brave", people from Tierra caliente pride themselves for who they are. They dance "zapateado" on fiestas, sing about the sincere ways of life on their land and talk about how humble their people are.
Most locations within this zone are situated along coastal plains, but some interior basin regions also fit into the category. Here agriculture is dominated by the cultivation of crops with strong tropical associations, such as bananas.
