Talk:Tickle Me Elmo
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
TMX
Can someone please edit out the F word from the Elmo page? Children surf the net, and the wiki article is one of the top things that come up when you search for tickle me Elmo.
I heard that the X may actually stand for 10, since the first was released 10 years ago, instead of extreme. Is there a basis to this? Jamesinclair 14:33, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
While it may be what was originally intended, if you've seen a video of the thing, you'd also agree that extreme was an accurate adjective for the reaction 128.113.148.32 06:12, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
The correct meaning is actually written on the "Warning" box under the flap: "Tickle Me Elmo X-treme" --71.2.147.254 17:19, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Found an Elmo!
I found a story about a man who threatened another customer with a gun when they beat him to a Tickle Me Elmo. http://www.shortnews.com/shownews.cfm?id=57173&CFID=7519028&CFTOKEN=74311679 I would just add it to the article, but I've got to finish my assignments first. [edit] Elmo's Price
I have a problem with this paragraph:
- Though the doll has a recommended retail price of US$39.99, the average price on the auction-based website eBay had risen to roughly twice that amount within 24 hours and is now closer to 400% of the original MSRP. As the trend continues as many blogs and toy experts predict, the price has reached a highest price of $1,000, thus completely overshadowing the original.
This seems like a load of BS. No sources are cited. Current selling price on eBay is about double the retail price. Looks like it was thrown in to make the Elmo seem rare to drive up the price (crazy conspiracy theory of mine)
[edit] "F-word edit"
Completely innapropriate for this page (esp. considering it's the first hit for "Tickle Me Elmo" on Google.) Please delete.

- Oh please, did you even examine the following before you linked to it?
- "Words and images that might be considered offensive, profane, or obscene by other Wikipedia readers should be used if and only if their omission would cause the article to be less informative, relevant, or accurate, and no equally suitable alternatives are available."
I have replaced the exact quote. WP is not censored, or bowdlerized. Replacing letters with symbols is not an option. Please review the policy I linked to for details. Doc Tropics 04:06, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] "Top Secret"
I've just acquired a TMX Elmo (I was waiting for a Wii, they were sold out, and since I was lined up, might as well get one for someone who might want one), and it has the "Top Secret" label (it's printed on, not a sticker). Lifting the flap produces the "Elmo is really ticklish in here!!!". This was acquired December 16, 2006 in BC, Canada at Toys'R'Us, so the "Top Secret" label may not be that rare, especially with the "Elmo is really ticklish in here" sound. (The box has Elmo peeking out, as described in the main text). 24.86.143.192 21:18, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Swearing and inappropriate
I found a few videos on Google Video in which he makes a bunch of in appropriate words such as the f-word and the s-word, also saying that "My dad's from Jamaica ladies and Gentlemen" and "My mom is a jew! Gimme some wallpaper!" Also saying "Your're having a wet dream" Should we add something about this? Frankyboy5 08:10, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
- Was the voice the same as its normal phrases? The video could of been edited. OrangeAipom 03:43, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
I heard about an Elmo doll swearing and talking about the devil and such, but I never could find it on the internet. Anyone want to give me a link? I also believe it should be included in the article.

I can confirm that the part about Your having a wet dream is true because I heard it at Toys "R" Us. I think the sound quality's very bad because some of the makers of the videos think it is Gimme a break please! Frankyboy5 03:09, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] New edition
There's a new "eXtra special edition" that's been released in November. We just got it as a Christmas gift for our daughter tonight; this model apparently has a number of "silly surprises" that will be released to the public Jan 9 2008. We've discovered that pressing the foot, head, and belly with the arm raised results in the toy singing an Elmo-voiced rendition of Michael Sembello and Dennis Matkosky's Maniac. Since I'm no expert and wouldn't want to ruin a well written article, would anyone care to update the page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.230.254.69 (talk) 02:25, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
