Tibareni

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tibareni (Greek Τιβαρηνοί Tibarenoi; Thobeles in Josephus) were a people referred to in Herodotus, Xenophon, Strabo and other classical authors. In classical times, they and other related tribes, the Chalybes and the Mossynoeci, were considered the founders of metallurgy. These three tribes still neighbored each other, along the Black Sea coast of Anatolia (ancient Pontus), as late as in Roman times.
